GPL on Matrox G400 - which graphics driver?

Hi all, I've been helping a friend set up GPL on his Athlon 550 with Matrox
G400 graphics card. The OpenGL graphics option in GPL is buggy - there are
some weird lines in the sky - basically you can see that the "skybox"
appears to be made of four stacked octagons.

Haven't been able to try the D3D patch yet because it needs DX7 or higher,
and only DX6.1a is installed at the moment. Is it worth the 8 MB download
(over a modem) to install the D3D patch?

Any advice from Matrox owners would be appreciated

DX 8a might not fix your GPL problem but it's almost inevitable that you'll
get upgraded by the next game you install anyway.

Do you have Nascar4 or F1RC or any other fairly recent 3D game around? DX 7
(at least) or 8 will be on that CD.

YES!!

I am running a GPL on a G400 with DX 8a and it runs fantastic. Very clear,
high resolution, and nearly a constant 36fps.
If your a little wary of jumping from DX 6 to DX 8 you can still get DX7a at
www.simracing.com, it's under the "Utilities\Miscellaneous" section. (I
mention this because I don't think 7a is available on the MS website.)

BTW I'm running:
P3 667
G400 DH
5.12.01.1510 drivers
Win 2K
DX 8a
GPL v1.2 w/ D3D patch

Thanks for your replies, we downloaded DX8 and the D3D GPL patch works
perfectly. Much nicer than it does on my humble TNT2 M64 in fact. *Jealous*
