Help with GPL and Dell

by RonJColeNoS.. » Thu, 01 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I'm a newbie to this group and know little or nothing about simulators.
I have been considering Sierra's Grand Prix Legends, but do not know if
this is a quality simulator.  Also I have a Dell Pentium III w/500 Mhz
and a Diamond Viper TNT video card.  I have been told that this card is
not compatible with Sierra's Grand Prix Legends.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx,
Ron

There is an OpenGL patch on the Papyrus web site, and your TNT will work with
GPL and this patch. The frame refresh rate in car is quite bad unless you slow
down the mirror update rate, and the patch explains what to do.

Keith.

You'll love it, but only if you are looking for one of the most
demanding and realistic simulators in the business!

Your TNT Viper won't support GPL out of the box, but you can download
the Glide drivers. However, for true greatness, buy a 3Dfx Voodoo2 or
Voodoo 3. Your computer will be virtually perfect for it!

Welcome to R.A.S. and GPL Ron.

I don't know about your card's required patchs and all, but GPL is the only
simulator in my computer.  It requires that you are passionate about Grand
Prix racing (F1) to the point of knowing and understanding a lot about car
control under racing conditions.

See you online at Spy Boy.

You'll need to either get a patch for your video card or get a Voodoo 2 or
3.  (Since the TNT is an awesome card from what I hear, you'll probably want
to go with the 2.)  Once it runs good, and you are a die-hard racer (it
takes LOTS of practice), you should be having an absolute blast.
Unparalleled graphics (and it's what, a year or two old???), physics that
nobody (not even Sierra/Papyrus themselves) have matched, AI that's actually
intelligent, but not robotic, and 1967 Grand Prix cars...what more could you
ask for??

Ahem!

Unparalleled graphics? The graphics in GPL are utter rubbish!

Just look at those cartoon buildings around Monaco!

Most people will barely notice the graphics however, because they will
be so involved in the racing.
