N2 with STB anyone?

by Mikes Design » Sun, 01 Feb 1998 04:00:00

Hi all,
My son gave me Nascar 2 as a gift which is great after all I have
heard about it I wanted to try it. When I install seems ok but it will not
start it shows that nice intro clip and thats it. I have tried full DOS
window DOS and W95 no luck. I called Sierra and they say I need a vesa bios
extender chip. Has anyone run N2 on a STB AGP card ? Also what is this vesa
chip? Well any help would be appreciated. Cya, Mike

I have a gateway p2-266 with an STB Velocity128 AGP, and Nascar2 runs fine
if I install and run in pure MS-DOS mode.  Don't use a dos window, you need
to reboot to pure msdos, and don't run that video clip.  Run the game with
nascar.exe.  Watch the screen as it boots up, and see what line it gets
hung on, if it does.  If it stops on your sound card line, try disableing
the sound card in the setup program and run the game again.  Sometimes
auto-detect doesn't always work, and will not allow the program to run with
the wrong sound card ID.

Thanks George I will give that a try. Could be that sound card as I did
have some lock-ups during auto detect. Thanks for your help. Mike

I use an STB 128 AGP card and had a problem when I first got my computer just
before Christmas.  I run it in Win 95, all graphics, all sound, all drivers
drawn ect.  Here's what I did:  Uninstall N2, then reinstall at the point where
it ask about univbe driver respond NO!  When I did it that way everything
worked like a champ!  Let me know your result.  Good luck!

Yes. There was a little thread about 1month ago about N2 with a nVidia
chipset.

Just click on no for the Univbe drivers.  It works perfect, with N2.bat,
Nascar2.exe and nros.exe .  Btw you bought a great card, and with a Voodoo2
it's one of the best combo you can have. Just take a peek at
DejaNews, sometime you ca have more info than posting here ;-)
