I'm just not very good at it.

I'll take one of the templates from someplace like
http://www.racesimcentral.net/'ll start by
laying down the new base colour I want.  The problem is when I do this
in something simple like MSpaint I lose the suble colour differences
around the fendors and bumpers so the car comes out looking like a
cartoon.

Is there a better way for somebody with absolutly no artistic flair to
get a car the colour he wants but still have the shading that gives it
shape?

Cheers,

Art.

Most templates are designed to be used with software that can handle layers,
like Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, etc.

Then, you can select a base layer, and flood fill while retaining the
shading etc.

The way I do it is to just paint over all the details, then when I import back
to N2K3 just press apply template, and presto, a nice looking car.
