Hi all!

In GPL I'd like to be able to edit my Lotus to have my name on the side like
many of the other cars do.
I think the AI would like to know who the idiot sliding down the track on
his rollbar is <g>
Anyone out there know where I should start??
Specifically which file(s) should I edit?
I take it that the car number is superimposed on the car, not embedded in
the texture file?  How about the driver names???
So many questions.....

TIA,
...Colin

Of _course_ it can be done...I've got my name on all the cars I drive!

Its quite easy really. You need to open the Lotus. dat file, then use Winmip
to convert the .mip files of your Lotus (#4) into a .bmp file. Open this in
a paint programme and paint on your name. Ensure when you save the picture
it is in 16 colours, and convert back to a .mip file. You don't need to
re-pack the .dat file again, just in case you want to modify the picture
some more. The tools are available at the US Pits www.theuspits.com/gpl

Hi David,
you have to unpack the *.dat of the car you wish to paint, for e.g.
lotus.dat. In this unpacked files you'll find a file called lot4.mip. This
file is the player-car.
The tools you need are:
Corey Rueckheim's Pack/Unpack -util
GPL Win-Mip to convert the files from the mip format to bmp and vice versa.
But take care, you are restricted to 16 colours. If the car is painted you
only need to copy the mip-file into the specified car-folder.
If you can't find the files, mail me.
Happy painting
Dirk
