Help With VROC

by Skeet » Sat, 29 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I have been playing around with GPL since it came out.I tried
to race in VROC when it first came out but had no such luck connecting
so I gave up.Lastnight I revisited VROC and found that its much
improved with WINVROC.Downloaded it and when I tried to connect I got
the same error again(timed out opening communications channel). Please
help someone because I have tried a new approach[see below]and am very
anxious to race some real drivers:)))))

The past two months I decided to really try and improve my
driving skills and in doing this my interest in GPL has doubled. When
before I was always feeling that I just couldnt drive the cars the way
the hotshots do,the practicing has given me a better feel for the cars
and it seems that I enjoy it so much more now.Its a great feeling when
you start diving into turns with your front tires perfectly on the
edge of grip and keep them on the edge of their traction circle thru
the turn. Before I would always enter the turn overcoocked and wait/beg
for the fronts to start grabbing. This was due to me trying t brake as
late as possible and was upsettiing the balance to much and
overloadingthe fronts. After reading somwhere about a guy who couldnt
understand how a superfast guy was seconds faster even though he was
braking much earlier than him it made me remember what I had read in a
racing book years back.It stated that you dont gain much time "on the
brakes"  and that this is an area to explore as you get really good.In
the beginning though you should brake earlier and concentrate more on
the correct speed that the turn requieres.Bingo I can now enter a turn
with much more ease and I am exiting at a much faster speed and this
is the secret to going fast.A couple of months from now Ill try to
start braking later and later and see what that gets me.

I'll assume your directly connected to the internet (no firewalls to worry
about).  If your running Win95, you need the Winsock2 update.  Umm, I lost
the URL for the update.

That's the only help I have right now.
Jason.

Timeouts usually are an indication of a bad connection to the game host

try other hosts, if they all give the same error, try getting a friend
to connect to u thru WVROC eith u as host.  If that doesn't work..
It may well be a bad isp...
