VROC session timed out HELP!

by Peter » Wed, 09 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Have there been any cures for this problem?  I do everything correct, click
join in VROC screen, GPL loads, goto multiplayer, click on the join tab &
highlight the tcp/ip setting from the host, click on green button,
connection opens then after 2-3 seconds it closes and says session timed
out.  I average 48000bps connections to my ISP. (direct, no AOL).  No proxy
server, straight from my computer to phone line to ISP.

I have:
Celeron 300A (450mhz)
Asus P2B 64mb ram
Diamond SupraMax PCI Voice Modem v.90 drivers installed

I am ready to race on-line but can't.  However, I noticed that the ping
times average 600 - 700+.  Does this mean that my modem is a winmodem?
Should I change to a USR or keep my current modem and ad a cable modem (that
would be nice).

Any suggestions or answers are greatly apreciated.

Peter, the ping times you quoted are too high.  Much too high.
This is why you time out.

Open a DOS window while logged on to your ISP and type in
"TRACERT GPL.GAMESTATS.COM", then press enter.

Copy, paste, and post the results here and we'll dissect them.
Or send them to my email address (remove the "spam_this").

Rgds,
