SVGA??

by Matt Neil » Wed, 15 Oct 1997 04:00:00

Hello all

I just got a new computer and in my old computer I had a rendition card.
Well with this computer I don't have a rendition card. I'm afraid to
take it out cause it could be infected with a virus. Anyway for the time
being Does N2 run good in SVGA?? I have a 233Mhz Intel Pentium with MMX
Tech. 32 MB Edo Memory, ATI 3D Rage II+ Graphics, 2MB EDO Video Memory.
My question is, will I be able to run the game with full graphics detail
on about 30-35 cars with 6 or 7 drawn ahead, and 30FPS?? I haven't
installed the the game yet cause I want to find out if I'm even going to
be able to play the game on this computer. I plan on getting a rendition
card sometime this yr, my old one sucked anyway, wouldn't run in WIN95.
I gues that it:-)
Thanks,
Matt

You have the basics to run the game about any way you wish in SVGA.  The
only unknown for me is the ATI card... does it allow 2D through it?  If
so, okay.  Only 2 Megs of video mem might ***it a bit, but that
remains to be seen.  I'm running a similiar P233MMX system (except with
the 32 Megs SDram and 4 Megs of video) and have no problems at any of
the tracks with all textures on, and drawing the full field of cars in
front.

Do it... it's a ball.  Besides, what can it hurt?  Before I had the
ability to run with all this suff on, I didn't realize how much all the
graphic eye candy would add to my *** enjoyment.  Hope this helps.

God Bless,

Andre

No, it can't. Definitely move it over if *** is your primary reason
to use the machine.

Sure. But it doesn't look as good or work as well as Rendition.

Probably not.

That's almost certainly a driver or motherboard issue. The old
Rendition cards worked in Win95, with the right drivers and setup. (I
don't have one, so I can't help you with the setup, but I know plenty
of folks at a certain game company who have Rendition cards (same as
you had) and have them work just fine in Win95.

Hardware, such as a video card, does not get "infected by a virus". It has
no way to store it. Your software drivers disks could have a virus on them,
or your hard drives, but not your video card.

With only 6 or 7 cars drawn ahead, there should be no problem doing it.

Don't hesitate to take your rendition card out of your old system and put
it in the new. I'm not sure what you mean by it could be infected by a
virus. I purchased a Dell Xps 233 mmx system about 2 months ago, ran N2 on
it for about an hour, and immediately proceeded to swap the video card with
my rendition card in my old system.I really missed those rendition
graphics. I get 30 fps at all tracks with all graphics on.

I have a Pentium 166 with MMX and 32 megs of ram with ATI 3D card and I can
run full graphics with full field and full field drawing with VERY little
problems.  Occasionally on some tracks the texture on the track or the stands
draw a very slightly slow pace.  Hardly noticeable.   So... a few less drawing
in the field would solve that.  So i think you would be fine with your current
system.... im currently in the rendition purchase options mode right now.  I
wish I knew for sure that N3 was going to support rendition again!!
(hint...hint) to anyone from papy or sierra listening out there.

BTW...  Excellent job on the expansion pack...   If I had the chance id buy
you guys a drink!!  =)
