Apparently EA's hotlapping site does not consider the "centerline" to be the
determiner of when a lap is valid or not.  It must be that at least one
wheel must be touching some part of the track.

Look at this--

Well to me that makes much more sense than using the centre line like
f12001rank
I always thought in most racing it was considered legal as long as you still
had two tyres on the track

Very interesting.

Personally, I think the authentication is bugged.  I've run laps where I've
the centerline way into the grass (and at least 2/4 tires on the curb or
grass) and then I've had other laps that I have failed where I never even
went off the asphalt.

Still confused........

Will SiPhi make a telemetry program for F1 2002 eventhough there is
one built in?

I think the one in F1 2002 is SiPhi's. At least it sure looks like it.
It appears to me that all the developers did with F1 2002, was to add all
the mods that people made to the game. Then they called it their own. I hope
the mod makers got something for it.

Yes, from what I understood, the telemetry is from SiPhi and yes I'm sure
he got paid....how much??  That I don't know...  :)
Also I'm sure they had to pay Gamespy to allow use of thier matchmaking
service.   I would hope they find a way to pay somebody to improve the
connection issues they have.  They brought in a FF expert for F1 2001 and he
did a bang-up job improving the FF effects that were rather bland before
that title.    They have made some good strides in improving the Multiplayer
mod, you can keep players from joining during qualifying(so the momentary
pause for everyone doesn't wreck your lap) you can now have open practice
instead of sitting in the chat lobby waiting for everyone.
But you can't chat from the car, you can't race with a large online group
unless you have a MEGA comercial grade pipe for the host.  And from what I
gather, there isn't much in the way of post race results files that leagues
would need.
So I will applaud the progress they are making, but they have GOT to
find a way to reduce the huge amount of bandwidth their multi requires.

Would the ingame telemetry program work with the upcoming FIA
GT/ALMS/JGTC mods?  Or would SiPhi need to make an external one again?

BTW, I don't have F1 2002 yet but can you export your hot laps to a
.LAP file?
