Funky business with DX7 & Wingman Force

After reading a few people were OK with the Wingman Force and DX7, I
went ahead and installed it.
I have the same problem someone else reported about the wheel not
being recognized by games (as if it's not hooked up).

Both LED's are lit, it works in the joystick applet (including the
force effects corresponding to each button), but when I go into a game
it isn't recognized until I open the joystick applet and click the
Refresh button.

I also have the same symptom someone else mentioned of the joystick
applet showing UNKNOWN after the controller listing for a second or so
before saying OK. It does this every time I open the controllers
folder.

It's not a big enough deal that I'm going to go through re-installing
DX6, but there are also no tangible gains from DX7.
If you have 6.1, my suggestion is to stick with it. Hopefully, a quick
workaround will come up for the wheel problems some of us are having.

I have a Thrustmaster Pro connected through my SB Live! card with
Win98 and I have just installed DX7 and I too get the momemtary
"Unkown" when I go to Game Controlers in Control Panel, but I have no
problems using the wheel or any other problems for that matter.  Then
again I have seen no gains with DX7 either.

I urge everyone experiencing problems with Logitech's game controllers
to e-mail Logitech about the issue, as it certainly seems to be some
kind of conflict between their drivers and the new dinput.dll file
from MS. I would drop MS a line as well, but since they don't provide
e-mail support all I could do was fill out one of their "bug reports."
If the companies don't know about the problem, nothing will be
corrected:)
Cheers,
Chris

I also have this problem with my WF....see above post....connected to SB
live gameport. I enabled my old Ensoniq audio sound card, installed the
drivers and It works fine even upon reboot:)
Could DX 7.0 have changed or corrupted the jstick drivers?
Here are the drivers/versions for my two gameports-
Creative Gameport Joystick
 VJOYD.VXD
 MMDEVLDR.VXD
 MSJSTICK.DRV
 File version 4.05.01 1998

Gameport Joystick "Ensoniq"
  VJOYD.VXD
  MMDEVLDR.VXD
  MSANALOG.VXD
  MSJSTICK.DRV
  File version  4.05.01  1998

The only difference between the two gameport drivers is the addition of
MSANALOG.VXD to the Ensoniq driver, which works.

I don't think this can be completely the case for wheel users, since
the Wingman FF wheels are on either the serial, or more commonly,
USB port.

I haven't found a workaround yet, I simply open the joystick applet
and click REFRESH before playing. It's mildly annoying, and hopefully
someone will figure it out soon.
