GPL - I finally broke the 1:32 barrier at Monza! Woo hoo!!

...1:31 here I come (eventually)

Okay, so it's relatively slow. But I reckon if my times are 5 seconds off
the pace of the really quick guys, I'm the equivalent of a Pedro de la Rosa
of today?!

A few questions for the GPLers of ras:

If I have to come in to the pits for a jumped start, how long to I have to
wait?

What key turns off the handbrake on my Ferrari?(!) Maybe I'm leaving it on
throughout my laps...

Should I feel bad about having a crush on Alison Hine?

Is it normal to be thinking about the fastest exit from Ascari whilst at
work?

What do I do about a wife who describe's the 312's gorgeous sound as 'too
loud'?

Your problems will really start if...

1. you're thinking about Alison Hine whilst at work

2. Your wife reads this ng & finds out about your aforementioned crush on AH

3. You record the "312's gorgeous sound" and play it in your road car on the
way to work

>Should I feel bad about having a crush on Alison Hine?

Back off, I saw her first :-)

However, you should feel bad if you can look at say, Gail Porter, and your
first thought is to wonder if she'd do a decent 'Ring time.  By the way,
I've got a great picture of Gail in a Jordan***pit.  A bit of a tight
fit...

I dunno but tell me this... it is normal that I wish I could bring my LWFF
to work so I can play GPL at lunch?

Solved with either a new sound patch or new wife patch...

Dale.

I remember seeing a documentary or one of those hour long commercial
things.  They were talking about a device that you put in the car and it'll
change the engine sound to what ever type of engine you wanted.  I remember
seeing a guy in a 4 door family car and he had a Ferrari engine sound.  I
don't remember how it works or where to get one of these.  The thing is or
was available though :-)

If anyone knows what I'm talking about, do you know what it was called
or how to get one of these?  My Geo Storm would sound nice with a BIG V8 ;-)

I think its 15 seconds...or is it 30...either way it seems like an eternity...

Are you using any of the helps (throttle, brake or shifting)?  If so learn to
do without them.  When I finally learned to drive without throttle assist and
anti lock brakes my monza times went from 1:32s into the 1:30s in a matter of
weeks.  They really do hinder you alot.  If you arent using any helps...then
all I can say is practice practice practice.  You'll get there
eventually...took me a year before I got into the 1:29s at Monza and I only
just recently am I able to be competitive on almost every track.  Watch some
fast lap replays and see where those guys brake... accelerate... etc.  Youll
find it helps alot to see how a fast lap is run.

Hmm...not sure on this one...what does your wife think?  :)  j/k

Yup...untill of course you master Monza and move on to Nurburgring....then you
spend countless hours reviewing the best line through Tiergarten...and
Hatzenbach, and Bergwerk...well you get the idea...

Invest in a set of quality headphones.  I got a pair of Aiwa HP-X222 enclosed
phones at BestBuy for about $35 USD.  But you can spend as much as you
want...if you have $100 or more to burn thers a full assortment of excellent
studio quality headphones around.  Maybe someone else can make a suggestion as
to the higher end ones go (personally I think my Aiwas are just as good but
thats me...)

Hope some of this helps.  I am by no means a top notch GPL'er but I have owned
it since pretty much the initial release date so I have alot of miles under my
belt with it :)

No, it's okay. I'd worry if your crush was on Eldred, though.

No, it's not normal to only think about one corner.

If she complains on key, it's not a problem. Otherwise, a wife patch can
be found at www.duct-tape.com.

I often think about the fastest exit from work while I'm driving Ascari.
Is it normal? If so, could you tell that to my boss too? If not, I want
a second opinion.

Yes indeed, I remember seeing the same device on BBC1's Tomorrow's
World, back in the 80's.

At the time I thought it was silly! But now I won't one for my VW Camper
Van :).

Cheers

hmm..   how abouts would we start doing a search on this on the web?
maybe a newsgroup talking about inventions or something? or...?  I'd be
interested to know if it's still available and just how much one would cost.
If it's not available, I wonder how it did what it did.

Wait until your pit board disappears.

It has a handbrake?  This shouldn't be a problem.

Hehe.  No.

Yes. (At least it's normal as far as RAS goes :)

Tell her she's too old? :)  Okay, maybe that's not the best answer :P

Hehehe  good thread   LOL

   (I remember getting a 1-31 Ferrari lap, its great isn't it :)
Pedro dela Rosa? naaaa  ... you could prolly end up being fast...
 > wait?
When u come in stop right in front the board... it will say "jumped start"
or "missed corner" or whatever, wait until the board dissapears and go....
usually 5 or 10 sec :) ...  (tip.... try not to jump the start   :P )
Naaaaa m8 just drive round the track quicker  :)))
   No ... I do too..... ;)

I posted almost the same question after GPL 'bit' me..... my advice is...
thinking about it at work is prolly the only interesting thing to do... so
why not  :-P  ( It gets better when youre at work thinking of how you
'should' have reacted to the 3 car battle that you found yourself in, by
accident in a league race   :)))))))
Tell her it sounds fairly quiet, and there's something wrong with her
hearing.
See u on the track :)  Dan Leach
