I worked with a guy who left to work for Lotus. He worked on an active
noise-cancellation system that they fitted to a Citroen (IIRC) saloon car
for demonstrations. He told me they'd put a journalist in the driving seat
and turn the system on and he'd be very polite about the wonderful system,
how it made the car like a Rolls-Royce, etc. Then as well as subtracting the
noise of the Citroen engine they'd add any engine sound they fancied. All of
a sudden this poor old Citroen would be hammering down the straight,
screaming round the bends, as the driver got high on the glorious sounds!

I don't know what became of the system, but I think it would be tricky to
retrofit (especially if a Geo Storm is what I think it is :-). Maybe "they"
banned it as it would cause too much reckless driving!

I once found a frequency on my previous (anciant) radio wich made a noises
that sounded like a lawnmower and it increased in pitch as my engine revved
up.
I was laughing my ass of the first time I drove around with that
lawnmowersound turned up very loud :)

And your *proud* of that? <jk>

10 seconds will do nicely. No, it isn't worth it.

But obviously not at the start...

That depends, it's nothing *** now, is it?

No,  you should be thinking about Pararbolica and Lesmo 2

Agree wholeheartedly and drive the BRM instead, at maximum volume...

Hehe. My top time is 1.31'60 or something. I was making real good progress
until I started using medication 1 week ago(ritalin, from the docter
allright!). Now I'm driving in the 1.32- 1.33 range... I stopped today
because I'll be taking driving lessons soon. Let's hope it will also improve
my lap times in gpl.

No. Mazzacane(is that how it's written?). Sorry.

Why is everybody in this ng married? Damn...

Anybody in the sub 20's range(age that is and not gpl rank!)?

So what we have here is a guy who's learned to drive GPL before learning to
drive a real car... lord have mercy this man's future driving instructor.

so i'm not the only one doing 1.31's on Monza.  Unfortunately, I don't
have a decent controller and that laptime was set using a playstation
dual shock controller via the parallel port.  Unfortunately, my
interface isn't working too well (5v power problems), so it doesn't
work anymore.  i've given up on the keyboard, obviously.

I often wonder what a decent wheel/pedal setup would do for my times.

or maybe Damon Hill in his prime?
***ducks for cover :)***
i felt that way too when i compared my laps to the WR :)
why?  doesn't your wife build cobra's, race them, beta test papyrus
games and fly planes?

that depends.  i hope you're not an air traffic controller or pilot.

same thing we all do, buy a dvd player and hire titanic and pretty
woman.

on a serious note.  i was only introduced to gpl when i read this
newsgroup while looking for opinions of gp3.  i went out and found a
pirate copy of gpl on the web and started playing it.  after a few
days I did the right thing and bought it.  They still sell it here in
South Africa for about  US$12.   I as usual bought it for about US$20
about a month before the price dropped...  I started playing seriously
and almost gave up.  When I started doing the research thing on the
web I found out about the F2 & F3 racing hack.  That changed things
substantially for me.  I was finally able to go through corners
without losing it totally.  The next big advance was getting the
dualshock analog control working.  Its rare that a game remains soo
damn good so long after its release.

Now that I think about it.  There can't be many games attracting first
time players 3 years after its release...

*ramble mode off*

regards all,
ian

Sjoerd, on your first driving lesson show the instructor you know what's
going on. Put that sedan into a good 4 wheel drift and use up all the road.
It's sure to impress him and I bet he won't even make you to come back for
another lesson ;)

Now, everyone in this group is NOT married... :(
And that's not dependent on age(I'm 37).

Some UK TV personality...  I don't know a whole lot about her but the Jordan

Will look for it when I get home from work!
