GPL - I finally broke the 1:32 barrier at Monza! Woo hoo!!

by Craig Jone » Fri, 02 Feb 2001 04:32:48

I've actually owned GPL for around two years now, but made the classic
newbie decision of giving up after a few (okay, ALOT of) spins at the Glen,
and drowned my sorrows in NFS Porsche Unleashed and GP3.

After lurking in this fine ng I became intrigued with words like
'trailbraking', '36pfs', 'GPLRank' and 'Eldred'. One PC upgrade and Alison
Hine's <blush> site bookmark later, I'm now joining the ranks of frustrated
(yet enthusiastic) drivers and sub-10 minute 'Ring wannabes across the
world.  God bless this ng!! <sniff>

Btw, other classic wifey quotes, re. GPL :-

On my driving - "you're not very good, are you?"
On the Lotus's sound - "is it supposed to sound like that?"
On the news of my ***, sweat and tears which resulted in a 1:32 at Monza -
"what shall we have for dinner"

You can see what I'm up against.  I'm sure Schuey doesn't get this sort of
'enthusiasm' from Corrina.

Can't believe there really is a duct-tape website; my order's now in place!
(Only joking, love).

I meant what I said - being alone nights and weekends is over-rated...<g>
I'm getting too old to be alone.

:)
I had a female instructor in my first driving lessons! An ugly and not so
nice one so it wasn't really a plus. I don't know why but she seemed to hate
me because I (thought I) knew what was going on. Instructors don't seem to
like that. They want to teach and they get annoyed if they can't I guess.
The only thing she learned me was to pay attention to the speed-o-meter.
Never learned to do that before.

I didn't do a 4 wheel drift 'cause... Well that bmw 320d is kind of
exensive and judging from my gpl ranking I'm not very good(yet).

I am also doing driving lessons and GPL at the same time.  You'd be
surprised how often one improves the other, although I'm still to stubborn
to play it in manual.  Perhaps I will when I get a paddle shift. (Gee that's
authentic!)

So if you see a fiesta diesel using all the revs away from traffic lights,
that's probably me about to be told off.

Chris

PS:  I *think* my best time is about 1:31'08, but I have been spending most
of my time in the garage.

| Hehe. My top time is 1.31'60 or something. I was making real good progress
| until I started using medication 1 week ago(ritalin, from the docter
| allright!). Now I'm driving in the 1.32- 1.33 range... I stopped today
| because I'll be taking driving lessons soon. Let's hope it will also
improve
| my lap times in gpl.

| Why is everybody in this ng married? Damn...
|
| Anybody in the sub 20's range(age that is and not gpl rank!)?

Why did you give up on the key board?
Decent FF wheels are REALLY high priced here... so I got 1:29.8 in a
lotus with the numpad/F5-6-7 combo without slipstreaming.
I think training mode and hotlaps do not help, single race is the way
to go IMHO.

Dude, I'm with you. My latest stretch of singularity is getting really
old and it has only been 6 months. I'm 38 and all the chicks that I
recall (he he) being all over me the last time I was single seem to
have other interests. Boo Hoo. :-)
