What's Your Favourite IndyCar II Track?

Of all the tracks in IndyCar II, I think my personal favourite is
Laguna Seca.

Although its not the most graphically outstanding of the tracks, it has
enough to give it that dusty, desert-like atmosphere. The track itself
is very satisfying. It has some long straights to boot the car on, some
long bends that you can really hang on the edge going through, and some
shorter tighter bends that demand heavy controlled braking and good
reaction times. I particularly love the undulating nature of the track
- all the ups and downs are particularly exciting, especially in the
long straight leading up to the right hand entry to the chicane.

Anyone else want to say which is their favourite track, and why?

I think for me its a tie between Laguna Seca and Elkhard Lake, both
of which are the same style of track IMHO, kind of smooth, open
and flowing, but both have a couple of tight spots to throw you
off. Of the "boxy" tracks (lots 'o concrete) I think I like
Detroit the best, possibly because I've had some of my best battles
there. I don't generally look forward to running the ovals, but the
one-miler's (Michigan, Indy) are probably my favourites in that
category.

My favorite has to be Mid-Ohio.I love those blind apexes at
turns 5 and 11,and the straight between turns 2 and 4 makes
for some great drag races.I'm able to get into a very comfortable
groove here and I've had some great 100% length races, the
most memorable being one where I fought Robby Gordon tooth
and nail for the lead for about 15 laps.I was finally able to get
by him on the next to the last lap and I thought the day was won.
The last lap went smoothly until I approached the final turn, where
I ran out of gas!! All Icould do was coast helplessly toward the
finish line as I hoped and prayed and pounded the hell out of my
poor T2 that I might get there before Robby...but in vain.
About 20 feet in front of the line,Robby came flying by me for the
win and I sat staring at the screen in disbelief.Despite the
disappointment, this was the most thrilling experience I have ever
had with a computer product, and I'd like to thank Papyrus for
creating this sim.

That's probably why Surfers Paradise is my favorite track.  I managed to pass
Michael Andretti for the lead with about ten laps left and there by proceeded
to gain about .5 sec a lap on him.  On the last lap, comming out of the
final turn on the the main straight, I had just started my acceleration run
and about a quarter of the way down the front straight, I ran out of
methanol.  I dumped it into high gear (wishing that Neutral was an option)
and just started waiting while I coasted to the start/finish line.  As I was
crossing the start finish line, Andretti blew by at full speed.  Let's just
say it said good things about the season I was starting.
But I must give honorable mention to Michigan International Speedway.  I do
most of my testing and racing there.  Also, it's the only race I have
attended in real life.

Well at first it was L.S. because I knew it, but then I discovered
Elkart Lake! Probably my favourite road course.

Oval wise I reckon it's got to be Nazareth. I come off sessions on
that track going "Oh Boy!"

I've only just discovered the street circuits and I'm having trouble
remembering the tracks!

Without a doubt, for me it's Elkhart Lake. I love the long straights
followed by the hard 90 degree turns. It makes for some great passes
as I try to outbrake everyone.
Honorable mentions: Mid-Ohio and Toronto.
Worst Tracks IMHO: Australia, Detroit and any tri-oval.
Tracks I suck at: Cleveland, Portland and any tri-oval. <-coincidence?

Vancouver...fast and slippery, yet slinky and subtle.

Honorable mention goes to Surfers for scenery value.

You like Austrailia?  man...I hate that track.  Laguna Seca, without a
doubt.  My best finish ever was there, at 100% I finished 6th in a great
race.  The corkscrew alone is like nothing I've ever seen.

Mid Ohio........
Why?  Because it's my home track.  I haven't missed a race there since
1980.  I go to every race there.  I used to see Bobby Rahal race in club
races there.  I remember seeing M. Andretti racing Formula Fords at Mid
Ohio and Nelson's Ledges.  Also I like it because I used to race there.
My only complaint is that racing ICRII isn't like the real thing.  If you
ever wondered if any of these tracks are like racing the real thing, it's
not (and that's not a complaint to Papyrus, ICRII is a great product).
Mid Ohio on the computer, isn't really like the real thing....

Surfers and Laguna are my next favorite.  That's my 2 cents.........

I've never learned to like the road courses (Laguna, Elkhart Lake and
Portland).  Elkhart Lake has some fun parts, like the fast turns after
carousel, but the walls are too close:-(

Nazareth is pretty good in ICR2, and I like Michigan because
it's flat out all the way;-)  Phoenix could be on my list as well, but
it is bit too tight, and AI has some problems there.

<snip>

One of my favorite tracks is Long Beach.  It has some annoying 90 degree
turns, but everything between turns 3-7 and 8-1 is great.  I used to
like Toronto and Vancouver in ICR1, but I haven't found good enough
setup for these tracks, so I haven't made up my mind about them yet.

If I had to choose two favorite tracks from ICR2, they would be Long
Beach and Michigan.

Definatly Surfers Paradise because it's Australian.  Palm Trees, fast
corners, left... right.  Straight aways to kick some arse and of
course the Quantus signs.  And OH I love those Buildings in the
background.  My other 2 favs are Vancouver & Toronto because there
Canadian & they go all over the place like surfers & I love the
buildings in them too.

Another nod here for Elkhart Lake, which I have only started running since
I got ICR2, I really like the long straights and tight corners.

Previously with ICR1, my favorites were LongBeach, Laguna
Seca, and Portland.

I really don't like the ovals much... and I hope Papyrus won't be coming
out with a IRL track pack :) if I want ovals I just bootup Nascar which
allows me to do bump drafting.

Having just completed a really serious short oval race at Loudon, with
damage on and hefty opposition, I assure you that there is NO lack of
challenge on the ovals.  It's a different challenge than at the road tracks,
but a major challenge nonetheless.   If you don't believe it, set your
opp% to about 102%, turn damage on, and go for it... You'll acquire a
healthy respect for the real drivers.

So far I've had the most fun at Watkins Glen and Sears Point, from a pure
course standpoint.  The AI doesn't work very well there (or at any NASCAR
track, unfortunately).

For real racing, I've only had serious opposition so far at Loudon and
Laguna, and they've both been a blast.

What about Clevland? Although they dont have a football team, the
runway-roadrace is pretty cool. wide open corners, long straights, tight
chicanes, and a track so wide you can do skid pad tests. the only thing i
would say is that it is so flat that you can't see where you are going
sometimes. but if you shift to the sky view for a few laps it is easy to
learn. then watch out.

Personally I hate the road courses.  Too difficult to do with a joystick
and digital brakes/gas.  I just want to RACE!!!
