GPL 1.1 sound tweaking

 I replaced the Ferrari sound in GPL 1.1 with one I found on the net.
I used a packing/unpacking util to do it and now about 4 or 5 laps in
I lose all sound. Is it not a good idea to mess with sound in 1.1 or
did I do something wrong? I like driving the Ferrari but the stock
sound for it has a lot of distortion. TIA

 I put the original sound.dat back in and it still loses sound. Did I
introduce a bug into the install or is this a known bug in 1.1?

here's my system


128 PC100 RAM
3DFX V3 3000
MX300 Soundcard
LWFF wheel

Can you still use your keyboard when this happens? If not, it might be that
the computer has switched focus to another task and you need to get GPL
refocused by alt+tabbing or clicking.
