Exactly! I knew that Rubens will have to pit again after he stopped
refueling the first time. If you ever watched a one stop F1 strategy in
action before, you know there is no way a driver can get from the pit in
the middle of the race in under 10 seconds, which is what Ruebens did,
as the fuel flow is simply not that fast. After he started putting in
those amazing lap times, there was no doubt left.

There was absolutely no contoversy over that in my opinion. In fact, the
race was a true test of people and material, and Ruebens gave a great
performance (although I am partial to it, as he is my favourite driver).

And, BRAVO, Jensen Button. A splendid performance for the first race,
too bad his car broke down. I hope this will silence his critics.

Yeah, watching it on ITV and immediately after RB's pit stop the
commentator in pit lane said he thought that he hadn't put enough fuel
in to finish.   This proved to be the case.

Thanks, Paul.  Finally someone who knows what they're talking about.  There was
absolutely no controversy. Schumacher slowed way down to save his car since there
was no threat.  He slowed way down and pulled over for Rubens to let him by so
that Rubens could get to the pits as quickly as possible, refuel, and get back
out ahead of Ralf Schumacher (the driver in third).

Rubens was also very clear in the post race press conference that he was on a two
stop strategy and that that was decided by Ross Brawn right before he came in for
the first stop.

I am constantly amazed at the amount of bullshit posted about Michael
Schumacher.  After every single race there is a slew of moronic comments,
*** theories, etc.  Every trivial thing of the entire race weekend is
dissected and interjected with anti-Schumacher invective. It really is
unbelievable.

Indeed, I am astonished at how people can watch the same race and not
have a clue about how it was run and the tactics behind it. No
controversy, just a last minute decision to go for the two stop
strategy to try to get by HHF. Jordan obviously had a huge load of
fuel, as they usually do, so the only choice was to try a two stopper
rather than be stuck the wole race. Actually pretty lucky that HHF
blew up, cause RB was stuck behind Button after the 1st stop, and not
able to make use of his lighter fuel load.

Congrats Ferrari anyway, brilliant car with the two best drivers (in
my opinion anyway).

Agreed,
And I *really* look forward to the day when somebody challenges him like he
did to the "oldtimers" when he came into the sport. That would bring a much
needed injection into F1 IMO.

Here's to another Senna, Mansell or Schu.....preferably another madman like
Nigel! :-D

I have to say I really miss Nigel. He really kept it interesting if
somewhat a little confused. As soon as an announcer would proudly
proclaim that you couldn't pass on such and such a turn, Nigel would
give it a go. A real blast if a little crazy. Only guy I ever seen defy
a black flag. I think he is racing touring cars some now? Seem to
remember something last year...perfect sport for him; you can bump and
grind.

For ***s sake, there is now not only rec.autos.sport.f1, but now, if you're

all this off topic shite here in r.a.s?

It's just *completely* unneccesary.

RB's contract is said to be quite different from EI's one. It is not
explicitly said that he is n.2 even if when there is just one T car it
is for MS (I think also in qualify)

As for the pit, it is also my impression. RB's first stop had just a
little more than 6 sec. of refuelling. On the Italian TV, Giorgio
Piola said that a 1 stop strategy takes around 11-12 sec. for fuel,
while a 2 stop strategy takes under 10 sec. to complete. I think this
was done to get RB out from the Jordan couple .

But if they really wanted to give MSc a win, it would have been easier

True, but then RB was faster with the lighter fuel load and we all know
that it's next to impossible to pass in F1 and it slows you down because
of the turbulence even if your 50 feet behind the next car. So MS knew
he was coming in for another stop and need to increase the gap between
2nd and 3rd so MS slowed down and moved over to let him by. I jumped the
gun thinking they rigged it, I wasn't paying attention to the length of
pit stops. My Bad :(
But During the whole F1 race I only did see 1 pass on the tv and it was
a replay. I'm sure there was a couple in the back but that sucks. (1st
lap and M.Schumacher's pass not included.)
