he said he only know on that lap in the interview, he didn't know before...

personally I agree with you, but I thought it was worth discussing.

Sigh, this is unbelievable. Did any of you actually watch the race?
Ruebens is badly stuck behind a Jordan and essentially unable to pass on
the course. They decide that they may be able to pass the Jordan in the
pits; to do so you have to have a _very_ fast pitstop; you cannot
one-stop and get the required pit-time. As well, the general idea in
two-stopping is to be able to run faster due to lighter fuel load. So
they haul him in early in an attempt to be ahead of the Jordan after the
Jordan pit-stop. Turns out they didn't need to.

At the end, Ruebens does not have enough fuel to finish. Shu is running
slow since he doesn't need to run fast. So he lets Ruebens pass to pit
and not lose too much time. Ruebens doesn't charge at the end since he
has no hope in hell of making up about 20 seconds and passing in the
remaining laps.

With Schu well up the road and out of reach, with few laps left to do
anything about it, I would suggest that Rubens did the sensible thing

hey I'm not disagreeing or agreeing, I'm just saying that this will
obviously be talked about, and that it's just a shame that Shu's first win
there will be tarnished by that.

If RB needes another stop, then why go through the motions of *passing* MS?  He
could have just pitted one lap earlier.  To pass MS, *then* pit just looked a
little - strange...

Geez, fool.  If RB was so fast, why was he so long in getting past Frentzen,
who was unable to make any impression on Schu??

Settle down, have a drink, and let up on the *** bullsh*t.

No, he said Ross Brawn and he changed strategies when they saw (by the
amount of time HHH stayed out before pitting ) that Frentzen had opted for a
one-stop strategy.  Read the Press Conference question carefully:

Q: How soon did you decide to change your strategy from one stop to two?

Barrichello: It happened pretty much on that lap when we saw that
Heinz-Harald was going for a long first stint. That was the moment when we
decided to go for two stops.

Not really.  MS was cruising to conserve his tires, but RB knew he
needed another stop therefore had to go as hard as he could to ensure
he had a big enough margin over the 3rd place car in order to pit and
still come out in 2nd.  MS knew exactly what was going on, and moved
over to let RB pass.  If he had really wanted to keep RB behind, I
think he could have...

Maybe the point confusing people is that "that lap"
means (to me) the lap of the first pit stop, not the second.
Other people seem to be taking it as meaning the lap of the second stop...

Darn pronouns ;)

More because of the large attrition, I'd say, rather than
the pitting stuff.

Hehe, I couldn't resist commenting on this. But who you trust within the
goverment, depends alot on whom you know. I know a couple from this one
particular outfit, the Task Force 160th Special Operations Aviation
Regiment. They are the good guys, but hey, what's with their black
helicopters?? Yeah, yeah, it's pretty much illegal for US Military to
operate any aircraft painted black, but if you go to the first URL below,
you will see pics of some of the helicopters. Depending on the view looking
at them, they appear to be black, or close enough to count. Actually a very
dark grey camo job. Though you can't really make out the camo too well,
since the overall paint is very dark. And in case you don't believe the
Popular Mechanics article about them, go to their homepage run by veterans
of the unit. They are probably some of the bravest, unselfish folks in the
USA. Tough, sometimes almost impossible job with no glamour or press. Which
you'll know why with some reading. :)

I agree that it's a shame to have a tarnished win.  It's an
even bigger shame when the win is "tarnished" by a flight of fancy
taken by some people.

I have not seen or heard any mention of Ferrari team orders
outside of Usenet.
