GPL - Redline????

by Erik Astr » Sat, 07 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Um...what the hell is the redline of the various cars??? I mean the
"red line" that is on the tach just keeps moving up the higher I rev
it. What is my safe limit on the various cars. The Ferrari just keeps
going past 9k.... I have no idea if this is a good thing, or a bad
thing. I checked the book and can't find any reference to it.

Also, is there any way to SLOW DOWN the competition? As soon
as a race starts they leave me at the grid. I can never catch up....
I realize they are much better than me, but at this rate I never get
a chance to practice dicing with any cars.

TIA!

What car are you driving?  I am driving the Lotus and I don't have any
problems keeping up with the other cars on the start (even with the default
setup).  Now staying on the track so that I can stay with them throughout
the race is another story.

Good Luck,

No help from me on redline - would like to know myself.  On AI speed
look for a program called ai_tw102.exe (sorry cant find URL I downloaded
AITweak from) it allows setting all AI drivers to differnt levels.

Check in the user setup (where you put your name in andselect the car).
You'll notice the picture of the car has
specifications on horse-power at ____ RPMS.

That red line is the telltale -- tells you your highest rev point.

Ferrari passed 9000RPM is a good thing!  Hehe.

You want the neighbors to hear you screaming down
the straights.  That kinda sound only develops at 10,000+ RPM :)

Seriously,  I always shift at 10,400 RPMs in my Ferrari.
I just get clobbered in the straights if I don't 'wind  the baby up' :)

You must be talking AI.  I like them even though I'm running in
10thpostition or down :)

Play on VROC (it rocks!)  http://gpl.gamestats.com/vroc

There are other humans that drive like you.  You will always
be able to dice with someone.

Should be able to find it at Alison Hine's GPL web site:
The URL is http://www.nh.ultranet.com/~alison/gpl/

Didnt see it on Allison's site but it is at the following URL

http://user.sgic.fi/~icon/ai_tweak/ai_tw102.exe/

download and place in same folder as GPL driver.ini file.  Also if you
dont have a file VBRUN300.DLL in your windows\system folder then
download it (same url) and place in the windows\system folder.
VBRUN.DLL is required to run AITW102.EXE (AI Speed Tweaker)

The pedal on the right is the throttle, push it to the floor!  ;-)
(hehe, then keep it in a straight line)

The revs where it's making max power (as displayed on team selection
screen) is a fairly good reference point. Don't go much higher than
that....

There's a file around on GPL pages that spreads the field a bit
better, so some cars are still just as fast, but others will be
slower....

go to the tracks subdirectory and edit the track.ini file for the
track you want to race on. There's a value called

dlong_speed_adj_coeff = 0.980000 ; value modifies dlong velocities
                                 ;(i.e. RELS) in .LP

Change this to anything you want, the above example would set
the opponents at 98% strength. It works great and makes the game
much more interesting for us beginners.

1) Use SPEED TWEAK (get it at gpl.gamestats.com)
2) Alter the drivers.ini (I took the 11th - 19th driver, cut them and
pasted "them" in front of the others) to adjust the AI

Good luck !

Also, man mailt sich...

Alison has a link to a page I created describing the GPL Gauges under her
Help section. I got the data from Eric at Papyrus.

Hope it helps,
