Sierra servers - what will happen??

by Barne » Mon, 04 Feb 2002 08:40:56

With the release of NR2002, does anyone know how the servers will be placed
on and after the release date??

Will the N4 servers still be an option and running after Feb 12, 13, 14 or
15 (where ever you read the release date from) or will they fail to exist??

NR2002, will this get new server support and is there new coding involved to
improve any of the features (if they can be)??

Will there be a fade out period where the N4 servers will eventually
disappear (say six months) and the NR2002 servers will reign supreme (or
until the release of NR2003)??

Sorry if these questions have been asked or answered before. If there is any
area you can direct me to with a link or a belt over the ear....it would be
much appreciated.

BTW....these questions are not aimed directly at Eric, any answer from
anyone will do.

Cheers

Barney

There would probably be an overlap time where N4 and N2002 would be
available. Since they are Sierra servers you may want to visit their forum
and pose the same question.

I think you will find they still have n3 servers supported, although the
chat lobbies have been greatly reduced.  So N4 will still hang on, You will
probably find that the ammount of users in N4 will be more than those in
N2002 for a while at least.
And there is always OLR which isn't associated with Sierra, so I supose
they too will be available.

Sierra servers - what will happen??

Fact: When N4 came out, Sierra did not cut off the N3 folks by shutting
down WON.

Fact: N3 is STILL supported by WON, a full year after N4 was released,
and there's no indication of an iminent shutdown of online server
support.

Fact: N3 (and N4) enjoys a rather healthy existance on OLR, so there is
an alternative to using WON.

Fact: N3 can be used on OLR without signing up for their pay service.

Logical Conclusion: N4 support on Sierra will not go away any time soon.

Logical Conclusion: N4 will remain in use on OLR after NR2K2 is
released.

Fact: Papy N4 race servers (owned and operated by Papy independantly of
Sierra) will no longer be running N4 after NR2k2 is released - they will
be hosting races on the new sim instead. DO NOT take this to mean that
Sierra will shutdown their N4 host matching service.

I wonder why people are making such a big stink over this.  All it takes
is a littel logic to see what's going to happen.

But John, you're just too logical.  You sound like you might be some kind of
programmer or something.  <VBG>

Still enjoying Texas?

It would be a physical impossibility.  The AI behavior has changed, the
physics have changed a bit, and the track.ini files are different.  I
don't see compatibility as a possibility.  There are also some other
goodies in there that make cooperation between the two sims impossible.

:)

Texas is okay, but the drivers here suck ass.  Maybe it's because most
of them are illegal aliens that can't read english road signs.
