OK all you N2 gurus ( I thought I was until this).  Here's the deal.  I =
bought a Gateway P-233 this summer and installed N2-Windows version on =
it just fine.  I was unable to run N2 in Win95 environment, no big deal, =
I just ran it in DOS, and it worked just fine.  (It ran great in Win95 =
on my P-100 Gateway before).  Since getting the GNEP, I deleted my =
previous version of N2 to do a fresh install (I am ***like that).  I =
manually deleted it not uninstall.  Not that makes a difference since I =
formatted my C drive a few weeks ago (N2 is on E drive) and got rid of =
any residue from any programs I had installed before.

Now to the problem...I stick the CD in and get the Autorun window and =
choose Install and then get the White window of death which says ... =
SYSTEM ERROR
The file you are trying to open is already in use by another program.  =
Quit the other program and then try again.   CANCEL   RETRY  =20
Funny thing is that nothing else is running.  The Start-Up folder has =
nothing of interest and can't find nothin else that is running (Open up =
Task Manager and nothing out of the ordinary).

So I Try RETRY...nothing.  Hit Cancel, then it goes to the Black window =
with the Sierra logo and another Install option.  Click install and =
another White window...SETUP

An error has occured in your program.  To keep working, click ignore and =
save your work in a new file.  To quit, click close.   CLOSE    =
IGNORE....clicking either one gets another error window with the option =
of close.  That's it!  Can't install Window95 version.  I have installed =
the DOS version just fine, so I am racing.  I want to get this fixed for =
when NROS comes, I may be screwed if it's Win95 envirnment only, plus =
the fact it doesn't work and it should. =20

Oh, I installed it to my roommates laptop and it worked fine, so it is =
not the CD, it's this expensive PC.

Thanks
Eric

BIG Problem with N2-Win95 install

by Chris Watkin » Fri, 07 Nov 1997 04:00:00

HEY....this sounds like the problem a friend of mine is having...
it won't work from a win 95 install.....hanging at the "papyrus"
screen....
and when you delete, and re-install through dos.... it hangs with the error
"error confirming file (filename)" . they have had the disc over a year,
now.... and tech support gave up on them a long time ago,,,
I have been trying to help...but always with the same results...
heck, I even re-installed mine to my second drive once, along with her
(over the phone) so we could do the exact things... mine worked...hers
didn't....
what can you do in a situation like this....? the sim was a gift...
so no receipt.... and now she's stuck, and would really like to get the
game up and running.... her hubby has N1, and would really like to try N2,
but they keep thinking it is something wrong with their system...
I told them it wasnt likely... but I could be wrong, ya know ;)

the system...
p166 pentium Mboard
diamond stealth video card
serial mouse on com 1
32 megs edo ram
2.4 gig hard drive
soundblaster16 sound card...

shouldn't this work ?

and if not.... sierra/papy folks...... *help!!*

got the sim, and the box, and all the rest....
but no receipt... any help here ?
(would've used your tech support links, but they have given up on it
already, several months ago...)

BIG Problem with N2-Win95 install

by Chris Johnso » Fri, 07 Nov 1997 04:00:00

stop.....

I had the same problem when I manually delete N2. I never exactly  figured
out why but all I had to do is hit cancel and the black sierra install
screen came up and it worked fine. Oh well I guess ill never understand
computers.

BIG Problem with N2-Win95 install

I had the same error when I tried to install after installing the CD =
ROM.  It said that program was already in use.  But I click cancel then =
it would continue as usual.  I didn't understand it either, but as long =
as it continued the way it should I didn't care too much.  Sorry to hear =
that you weren't as lucky.

OK all you N2 gurus ( I thought I was until this).  Here's the deal. =
 I bought a Gateway P-233 this summer and installed N2-Windows version =
on it just fine.  I was unable to run N2 in Win95 environment, no big =
deal, I just ran it in DOS, and it worked just fine.  (It ran great in =
Win95 on my P-100 Gateway before).
    =20
Now to the problem...I stick the CD in and get the Autorun window =
and choose Install and then get the White window of death which says ... =
SYSTEM ERROR
The file you are trying to open is already in use by another =
program.  Quit the other program and then try again.   CANCEL   RETRY  =20
Funny thing is that nothing else is running.  The Start-Up folder =
has nothing of interest and can't find nothin else that is running (Open =
up Task Manager and nothing out of the ordinary).
    =20
So I Try RETRY...nothing.  Hit Cancel, then it goes to the Black =
window with the Sierra logo and another Install option.  Click install =
and another White window...SETUP
    =20
An error has occured in your program.  To keep working, click ignore =
and save your work in a new file.
    =20
Oh, I installed it to my roommates laptop and it worked fine, so it =
is not the CD, it's this expensive PC.
   =20
   =20
    Thanks

BIG Problem with N2-Win95 install

by Keith A. Walter, M » Sat, 08 Nov 1997 04:00:00

Do what I did. I wrote a batch file that runs N2 with -dma -4. Then I
double-click on that batch file while in windows and it runs fine, full
screen and everything. Frame rate is 30 fps, with about half the graphics
items on (just the important stuff).

My system
P-100 with 32meg ram
4mg Reactor Intense 3D video card.

OK I had almost the exact same problem ,so now try this,
   =20
    (1)  Find a file called SIERRA.INI probably in your windows folder
   =20
    (2) DELETE IT
   =20
    (3) REBOOT
   =20
    (4) RE-INSTALL N2, you will get the first error again more than =
likely
   =20
    (5) CHOSE CANCEL
   =20
    (6) WHEN YOU GET TO THE SIERRA INSTALL SCREEN YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO =
SELECT INSTALL THIS TIME (hopefully)
   =20
    (7) WHEN IT GETS TO THE SYSTEM CHECKING SCREEN.......CHOOSE "NO" =
DON'T LET IT CHECK YER SYSTEM...............THIS IS THE ROOT OF ALL =
EVIL!!!!!!
   =20
    (8) IT'LL TELL YOU YOUR SYSTEM HASN'T BEEN CHECKED AND ASK IF YOU =
WANT TO INSTALL ANYWAY........CHOOSE "YES"
   =20
It should contine with the install process ok, it did for me (I =
learned this the hard way by PAYING Sierra to sit on hold for this info)
   =20
    Hope it works for you,
