N2 - Still no success installing N2. Help!

Thanks for the response to those who have replied.

I've tried many things.

1.  Installed updated drivers for my Diamond Viper that support full Open
GL.
2.  Installed directx.
3.  Installed and launched N2 from both dos and win95 in all modes (n2.bat,
n2rend, etc.)
4.  Ran the soundcard autodect.  Is identified my sound card and the sound
test worked properly.

The problem is identical for all cases:  The opening video runs fine, then
I see dos command line information and responses from N2 like it is being
launched, then the screen goes blank (completely black) and I get no
keyboard control.  Control-alt-del does work however to recover from the
lock-up.

One clue that I think is significant is that when it tries to load univbe I
get a response that "No supported SuperVGA chip detected".   It appears
that N2 doesn't recognize my video card.

Any other ideas?

Jim

 Jim,
I had the same exact problem when I first changed over to a Viper 330 AGP
card. The solution is really dead simple. First go in a delete the whole
enchilada, then when you re-install do _NOT_ install Univbe. I got that one
from Sierra, and lo and behold N2 rocks right along on the Viper card! I had
the same symtoms too- black screen. Try the fix and I'd bet you'll be racing
pretty pronto. All the best, Mike

When yo boot the game, do not run the intro.  Use nascar2.exe.

Here is what the N2 readme file says about UniVBE

"PROBLEMS WITH UniVBE

Not all video cards are compatible with UniVBE.  If the machine locks
up or acts strangely after running uvconfig, reboot the machine and delete
the univbe.drv and uvconfig.dat files in the NASCAR2 directory on your
hard drive."

Hope this helps

Jeff
