I've seen a few grabs online of the FIA-GT add-on for R-Factor, not the RFX
one, but another..

Would anybody be able to point me in the right direction...

Thank You !!

It's GTR2 minus the driver arms and animated pit guys. Also the erratic
mp and frustratingly incomplete feature set. It's a net improvement,
IMO. If I were Simbin, I would not be happy with this development.
Frankly, for those owning rFactor, the game is has become as
inessential as tonsils.

After checking most cars, I'm overjoyed. Now I don't have to think about
which sim I start. Just picking a car and a track is hard...

Man, just looking at the WIPs on rfactor central (esp. Fedex CART World Series 1998)
is not going to make that any easier in the future... ;)

Since I bought Rfactor 2 weeks ago I haven't played any other sim,
it's awesome. The major thing lacking is changeable weather now..
and a decent '67 F1 mod would be nice ;)
Tried the one that was released a couple of weeks ago but those
physics were kind of crappy.

Frankly, call me a fuddy duddy, but this is complete BS imho.  Completely
ripped game, we wonder why proper sims can't prosper today, here is a prime
example.  No remorse at all from people for stealing another game.

Spoken like a small business owner. You have a valid point but this was
probably inevitable, tho it arrved unexpectedly out of nowhere. The
result will, IMO, hasten the debut of a proprietary graphics motor on
the part of Simbin/Blimey. And other developers will think twice before
leasing any part of ISI's various component engines. I understand that
the vehicle files in RACE are hard-coded. rFactor may end up as the
last moddable racing game- which is maybe not a bad thing.

It's odd how downloading files on the net just doesn't FEEL like
stealing.

Chad, please stop top posting.

Anyway, at least in my case there's no stealing. I own both sims.
Of course, making sims mod friendly also invites swapping parts
between sims. This was/is going on for ever in the FPS genre.
And nobody gets into panic mode because of it. As soon as the next
sim is released with a better physics/graphics implementation, we
all are going to buy it again...

Quite. Plus it gives the developer the option of maintaining a regular
income stream by releasing relatively minor updates in the
physics/graphics and bundling a series with it *knowing* that other
series from previous releases or rival products will get added to it to
widen the market.

Releasing sims based on a single series is bound to limit the appeal,
but if it is now the de facto standard by adding improved weather, AI,
support for the latest FFB wheels or just a set of working wipers then
it will become the base for other series to be converted. Until of
course the next version with puddles comes out based on another series.

Having said that the enthusiast group that can be arsed to download and
install all these conversions probably own every sim known to mankind
anyway. Either way I think there is *** all effect on sales be it up
or down and if someone really wants to simulate racing GT cars but
doesn't want to pay  for GTR2 there is far wider general knowledge of
how to go about it than importing *some* of its capability into another sim.

Piracy is a general problem that does effect revenue, but
interchangeability of content (not the game engines) between sims by a
small group of enthusiasts who are a core group of purchasers seems to
be considered as criminal acts by some when I really don't believe the
vendors would be concerned.

I purchased RACE which in its current form is now just sitting on the
shelf. Unlike GTR2 which has the excellent V8 mod to overcome my
personal view on the shortcomings of the sim, I don't see it changing. I
will now think twice before buying another locked ISI based sim.

Cheers
Tony

I think your point is very valid.

I might feel bad about getting the download except that I placated myself
with the thought that this will make up for the money I "lost" on GTR (1).
I paid for that and it never really did what it was sold to do -- ie: online
racing - net code sucked - practically useless.

So - although I typically agree with your view...   not this time.  ;)

That might be the worst excuse I have ever heard.  Sir, I didn't really like
my meal, do you mind if I help myself to another for free?  How many games
over the years have you bought that didn't live up to expectations?  I sure
in the hell have bought many.

Not entirely true. A truly good restaurant that wanted to keep your
business WOULD offer a substitute meal. Of course, if you cleaned the
plate, then I wouldn't expect that kind of response. But should I eat
2-3 bites and find the taste awful or the meal ill prepared, then most
places would try and placate you.

In the computer world, where it's too easy to buy, copy and return a
software title, it's not as clear cut. I seem to recall, for GTR, that
Simbin would refund your money if the product was returned to them. I
checked the manual for the game and it's not there, so perhaps I read
it on their forums when the game was still new and the complaints were
frequent. Or perhaps, I imagined the whole thing!

Simply put, the *** industry needs a way to allow "taste tests" of
the FULL version of games. IF a particular game is not what I
(you..anyone) expected, I should be allowed to return it, like a pair
of pants or a book. I don't seem to recall a huge outrage that book
sellers are losing their shirts because ppl. buy a new book, read it
and return it.

The company that finds a way to successfully do this, will be VERY
popular. rFactor is the closest I think. 10 day refund policy. Good
deal, IMO.
