FRAPS & F12000

by WPNas » Tue, 11 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I downloaded Fraps (I believe version 1.2) in an attempt to understand the
frame rates I may or may not be getting from F12000.  However, I have been
unable to get it to work properly on my system.

If I have Fraps running in the background, F12000 generates an error message
upon start-up.  (I do get the loading screen of Jean Todt and other men in red
plus the Williams in Compaq livery, but the moment it should launch to the
opening movie, I get an error and default back to the desktop.)

The moment I turn Fraps off, the game boots and plays normally.  Any thoughts
on what I can do to remedy this situation would be greatly appreciated.
FYI.......

I have a Pentium III, 450mhz
128mb RAM
Windows 98 OS
Voodoo 3- 3000, 16mb
Logitech FF Wheel (USB)
Direct X 7.0

Any thoughts?

P.S.  For what is worth, I haven't noticed the glaring frame rate issues that
have received so much space in this NG.  The game seems to run smoothly with
most options (including rear-views) on.  I do turn off the turning steering
wheel in the***pit view (its just eye-candy and eats FPS) plus the sky/clouds
(Driving Hint-  Look at the road -- don't look up)

I am running in 1024X768 and run with 6 opponents on Test days and full
opponents in races (drawing a maximum of 10 at one time).  The game only seems
to bog at starts and in severe traffic situations.  My curiousity with Fraps
comes from questions about my driving style.

My "pedal work" in F12000 isn't very effective (I have the shitty Logitech FF
pedals!) and I am wondering if the game is eating more FPS than I think it is
(i.e. It is affecting response times on the pedals/steering.)  I run GPL all
the time with full detail on the same system and have never had problems with
my effectivenss using brakes, etc.

Overall, not nearly as bad of a sim as many have made it out to be......my
major disappointments have been 3-fold............1.)Track accuracy (I have
been to Spa and Monza and the game absolutely slaughters both of these tracks.
In particular, Eau Rouge at Spa and Parabolica at Monza (not even close!) I can
only imagine the others are similarily botched, but San Marino seemed fairly
accurate.  2.) The worst implementation of force feedback I have ever
experienced (bring back the GPL FF model -- absolutely awesome!) 3.) The
Physics Engine- must admit it is better than I expected (especially given EA's
laughable model in Sportscar GT), but it still isn't GPL.

Just my $.02 -- I can't wait to do a head to head comparison with GP-3.  (By
next X-Mas if we're really lucky.  If not- Summer 2001 isn't too far off.  I
can't wait to drive the 99 cars in the thick of the 2001 season!

Cheers!

I had the same problem, what you need to do is to start F12000, then press
ALT TAB and go back to windows and then start FRAPS, you will see the Frame
counter in the top left hand corner.

BTW...
PIII450
128 MByte RAM
3D Blaster GE-force DDR Video card
F12000 800x600 Suzuka low 32 FPS High 50 FPS

I have sometimes the same problems too.
Simply stop the 2 programs, reboot Win98 and
start Fraps, when start F1 2000.
Or you can start first F1 2000 when Alt+Tab and start Fraps.
It's easy.
