Can't comment on the wheel, but I use the Microsoft Sidewinder (standard
not 3D). Seems to do well as joysticks go and for a moderate price. I
think the major advantage of a wheel is slightly smoother control and
probably, moreover, the porportional gas/brakes as compared to click on
and off gas/brakes with a joystick. It is alos possible to attach a
pedal assembly, setup as a second joystick, and race with
joystick/pedals. Can't gues what the results of that would be - but I
might try it as a stepping stone to a full wheel/pedal setup. Later.

Any wheel is a marked improvement over a joystick. When the car gets loose
- it is impossible to wrestle a joystick back and forth to get the backend
behind you again. This is no problem with a good wheel - although some
wheels make this difficult. /THansen
I can't claim that it is the best because I haven't been exposed to many
joysticks. But I've got a simple Logitech Wingman. Works just fine. Just
make sure you get a joystick that is not too stiff. Some of the more
expensive joysticks are very stiff. I don't think I could drive with much
control like that without killing my hand and wrist. Get one that is
relatively easy to move. Wingman also has a big and heavy base. Doesn't move
on the desk. $30; You can't go wrong.
