N4 : how is the SENSE OF SPEED

Hi

I have not read any posting about the sense of speed in N4.
Can anyone comment on this aspect ?

Does driving at 60 much different from 90mph ?
This is important to sense acceleration and decelerations
which was a good guide in GPL.

Thanks

It's realistic to real-life.  So somehow, it's not unrealistic like most of
the titles on the market.

I'd say that the sense of speed is reasonable. The car moves around
enough that sensing acceleration and deceleration is on a par with GPL ,
though of course the movement of 3000+ lb stockcar with downforce, on an
oval,is nothing like that of a 1967 F1 car. Your results may vary depending
on the computer CPU and the graphic level you are able to run at. At 733 I'm
satisfied but not overjoyed.

It's really about your field of view, which is somewhere near 90 in N4 and
in real life the fov is nearer to 180 degrees.
So if you look outside of the side window of your car when you are doing
60mph, it feels a lot faster than it would seem if you concentrate looking
on a distant point straight ahead.

So the speed is real to life in N4, you just need to add a couple monitors
more to really show the speed. In GPL I feel that the sound of the engine
tells you a lot of your current speed...that's my 2 cents.

Fantastic in the bumper cam view.  OK in the***pit view.  Try running
crowded in a field of competitors and it's fast enough in the***pit view!!
And probably fairly realistic.  It is not an exaggerated arcade racer,
though, with flashy graphics.

Personally even with a lot of stuff turned off I find the sense of
speed really good in the***pit view. Using the bumper cam it is
awesome.

You could tell the difference between 60 and 90 mph?  I can't - that's what
screws me up on all the hairpin turns.  I'm never sure exactly HOW fast I'm
going when travelling that slow...

hi

I assume you are talking about GPL here,,,

Try to increase detail bias to the max.
graphic details help you get a sense of speed.
( which is why games these days have so much
emphasis on it )

newer graphic cards want to BLURR the graphic
as you approach, giving you more sense of speed.

Yeah...GPL<g>.  Well, YOU mentioned it FIRST... :)
If it's the detail slider that helps, then that's one of my problems.  I *have*
to have it low in order to get decent frame rates.  So, it looks like I'm
screwed for a while until I can afford an upgrade...<sigh>
