GP2 and NASCAR Sense of Speed?

by And » Mon, 05 Aug 1996 04:00:00

After playing GP2 for the last week, I decided to give NASCAR a try,
and see how GP2 affected my NASCAR driving.  The first thing I noticed
was the sense of speed in Nascar seems very slow.  (way to slow in
fact)  Now I realize you are going slower, but something doesn't seem
right.  Anyone else notice this?  I suppose if I spent another week
with NASCAR I wouldn't notice it.  (since I never noticed it before)
I don't think it's a FPS problem, I have it set to run about 20fps
with track and grass off, and 25 cars drawn ahead.

I noticed the same thing. I attribute it to the fact that in
a NASCAR you are actually going slower. It is not, as you
mentioned, a frame rate problem. I also thought that NASCAR
was slower after I ran ICR2 for the first couple of times too.
I think it is just the difference between the cars themselves
and the constant action of the F1 courses, as opposed to the
ovals. That is my take on the situation.

Its a combination of rpm sound and the different perception between road
courses and ovals.

GP2 and NASCAR Sense of Speed?

Actually I think the pitching and yaw has a lot to do with it as well,
feeling the bumps as you drive etc....the car pitches up and down
quite a bit in F1GP2, it slides a little here and there, the sounds
allow you to adjust quickly though, and there is more trackside detail
and the road textures seem to be designed in a way to give you maximum
sence of speed, turn of the road texture and see the difference.
