Is there confirmation of a GPL2 yet? (I heard they were planning one
based on 76!).

It's just that I'm sick of having to spend the entire race just trying
to keep my no-grip heap of steel on the road when there's some good
racing to be done.

Sixties racing should be left to the experts if you ask me.

Hmmmm...  Last time I checked, a BIG part of racing was the effort
required to keep that big no-grip heap-o-steel on the track.  :-)

Dave, get Alison Hine's settings for the Cooper, change the BUMP
and REBOUND on all four corners to 1 and you'll be going like
"the hammers of Hell" as I once overheard a crusty old railbird say
at the Glen.

There had better not be a GPL2 just yet! What about the next releases of CART
and NASCAR sims, yet!

Have not even heard any rumors of any upcoming GPL2  releases, more a less
a confirmation ! Cart2000 or ICR3 after the N3 is the latest rumor but no
confirmation on that  possible release, but were hoping and praying !

I'm constantly amazed!  Do you think just cuz there are 3 + tons
of downforce on the car and supersticky slicks,  you think that makes it
easy to drive a 1000hp beast of an engine with a powerband as narrow
as my son's Katanna blade?  Or that rock hard suspensions make it
easy to control?   Remember, the professionals of the 60's are no more
talented than the proffessionals of the 70's and 80's.  Except of course
Hiro Mashushita...:)

Thanks a lot Chris, but surely the transition to the Cooper will make me
even slower still than I was in a Lotus. Or is the setup actually *that
good*?

Wash your mouth out GPL is the best racing sim yet. I'm exhausted after a 13
lap race. Best I've finished is tenth. But I still go back for more.

I thought he was a promising talent until Jacques Villeneuve choopped him in
half at Phoenix in 1994. He was never the same driver since?

So you are trying to tell me a nimble, responsive, partially computer-
controlled, racing machine with tons of mechanical and aerodynamic grip
is as hard to control as a heap of heavy metal with virtually no grip
and an engine 3 times too big on unforgiving tracks against 20 other
such cars?

I'm sorry, I don't quite follow...

Lotus with default setups = medium fast, fishtails under heavy braking
Cooper with AH setups = steady, comfortable to drive under
acceleration and braking

Now I don't know how fast you are say at the Glen, but a 1:07 with the
Cooper is very possible using AH setups.

There's a quote from someone who knew what he was on about...

"Racing has changed a lot since I started.  The cars are faster and more
streamlined with more powerful engines and better fuel and oil.  Tyres are
wider and the negative lift from aerofoils,. .have put up cornering speeds.
The brakes are better, too, allowing drivers to go deeper at the end of
straights before they have to brake.  Drivers have to concentrate harder and
the driving is a much finer balancing act than it was.  You could be rougher
with the older types of cars and get away with it.  Nowadays the driving has
to be more accurate and precise."
Graham Hill (1975)

I take it then, that there is no truth to the rumour that since Papyrus have
been bought by a French company they will be concentrating on F1?  I hope
not 'cause for a long time the only 2 games on my system were ICR2 and GP2.
Although I am positively drooling over the prospect on a GPL2...but my vote
would be for 1962.  Or going off right into the realms of fantasy, a career
game covering the 50s to the 70s.  Then we could all be (virtual)
'Old-Man-Jack'.  :)  And whoever said I was greedy???

Matthew.
