Voodoo 3 3000 questions...

by speed race » Fri, 28 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Hi, this isn't totally sim related, but it happends in GPL so that's good
enough for me!

I'm having a strange problem.. and I can't find any help anywhere, so I
figured someone here migh know...
I run my desktop at 1024. When I go to GPL (other games too) and the screen
bumps down to 640, or 800, the screen moves down and to the right... so the
far right and bottom are off the screen...  its fine while I'm racing (1024)
but off when its smaller.. Everything still works fine, but its really
anoying.. I"m using the latest drivers.. anyone fix this problem befoer?

thanx

Boy, that Blade, he's a charmer ain't he?  LOL

Do you have your monitor correctly identifed as a "plug and play"?
(For that matter, is it a plug & play monitor?)  It sounds like your
monitor isn't shifting gears (refresh rates) when changing
resolutions, or that you've got a bunch of different refresh rates for
your different resolutions.  There should be an "Advanced" button on
the Settings tab for the Desktop Properties dialog.

I race at 640x480 (puny system and a Voodoo2) and I have learned that,
even though they're two separate cards, I take a big frame rate hit if
I leave the desktop at 1024x786 and run GPL at 640x480.  So I just
shift down to that lower res on the desktop before I start sim'ming.

Maybe not. Sounds like he needs to just set his montior to a different
refresh rate for that res.

Yes its definitely the monitor -  I had the same problem with my previous
monitor and couldnt seem to find a way of setting different refresh rates
for different resolutions - or at least - it didnt help. When I bought a
newer digital monitor, the problem went away.

its a optiquest Q-71.. and is installed as such.  I also get the black
screen and click when changing resolutions which I heard it's not supposed
to do either..
I don't know what else to do.. I have the correct drivers installed for it.
any other suggestions?

thanx,
speedracer

I have a V3 3000 , and the same monitor u do, when changin resolutions i get
the black screen and click as well.
But I have no problems with it.
Have u tried a V3 overclocker?  it permits u to specify refresh rates for all
rsolutions.
It does sound to me like u need to set screen size etc, in the monitor controls
for the resolution.  Once u install new drivers u often lose all the size and
positions for the screen.
Have u tried setting your desktop to 640x480?

Speed,
you have to adjust the display in the setting GPL uses. This is about resolution
and this 16, 24, 32 bit thingie.
