Voodoo 3 3000 with DVD ROM choice

     I'm thinking about getting a  new system PIII 600 with a Voodoo 3 3000
card, a DVD-ROM for the primary and a CD-RW for the 2nd bay.  However with the
Voodoo 3 3000 card my only choice is a  DVD ROM Drive with Software Decoding
instead of Hardware.  Could this cause a problem with *** (mainly GPL & N3)
either online or offline??  The TNT2 ultra gives me the choice of using the DVD
ROM drive with Hardware- not sure why??
