Eldred's Race #1 At Sears Point

Eldred's Race #1 At Sears Point

George Sandman dominated the entire event, turning 1:19's in practice,
and 1:20's during the race with the fixed setup.

Top 5:

  George Sandman (1st)
  Andre Warringa (sp?) (2nd)
  John Simmons (4th)
  Mitch Altore (sp?) (3rd)
  Tom Pabst (11th?)

I spun Phil Lee at turn 6 on the first lap (he slowed more than I was
ready for).  As a result, Andre passed me in the esses but I overtook
him on the next lap and passed him in turn 11. (I think he lost a gear).

I believe Dave Henrie was having connection problems, and finally had to
disconnect.

Overall, I think it was a pretty good race.

If anyone else has any observations, please share them.

Had fun here too.  Sears Point was going well, but got some damage and
couldn't see much after that with my hood crumpled up :)  We went to Daytona
afterwards, fun there too.

That was not me, I was in 2nd place from the start to the finish..

Yes, congrats for a clean start and clean racing all, what a delight
this race was after some pickup races :)

Yep, have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised at Sears; thought it'd be a
mess.

  Great courtesy, etc. shown.

SP was excellent. Everyone did a great job and from what I saw there were
only a few normal racing incidents. The race was a thousand times better
than any pick up race I've been in.

Daytona......uhh, I'm not sure I want to talk about it. :-)
30 lapper.
John Pancoast and I managed to get a very small lead and then drafted tight
to open it up and spent about 24 laps 1 and 2. At lap 26 he made a very nice
pass on me, and on turn three of lap 29 I was able to get back by him. At
the beginning of the last lap my *%!*#$ *%!$# screen froze up and I ended up
flying through the infield. I've been worried it would freeze at the wrong
time and I'd wreck somebody elses race but I didn't think this would happen.
:-()

John may very well have gotten by me on that last lap
anyway.........congratulations John, that was fun. :-)

Thanks Dave, that was great fun.   We let those other guys race each other
and left them behind <G>

Don't know about being able to pass you again on the last lap; would have
been *** the outside.  Good run !

Otherwise two very enjoyable races. Going from '67 GP cars to 2002 stock
cars is a big leap. Again: thanks for understanding and no problem about the
touch at Daytona Phill... nice try to bump draft us back up to the leaders,
but we needed a FCY really. ;-)

I ran along time ago on a Nascar Heat Daytona server where the host had
one rule...YOU CAN"T STAY ON THE BOTTOM.   made for one very strange
night...pass low but then give up the line...we were like a conga line all
night...passing then getting passed every turn..

That sounds a little ridiculous. With John I knew somehting would be
happening very soon when we reached lap 25 (of 30). I tightened my line on
the straights (I usually follow the recommended racing line which goes up
next to the wall) and tried to make it difficult to pass on the inside, but
not impossible. He made a really nice pass and got by me on 26 and then at
29 I managed to get by him. When we were about to start 30 (right before my
freeze up) I figured I had no choice but to stay low on the straights or
basically give up the race. What else can you do? I wouldn't leave some room
and then dart in front of him and block when he tried to pass, so the only
thing to do is stay real low and force him to go outside. Does this sound
right? In F1 my technique would be different, but I'm new to NASCAR so I
might not always know what's right and wrong.

You didn't do anything wrong.  Most servers say "No blocking until the
last 2 laps".  This clearly qualifies.

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the
citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a
double-edged sword. It both emboldens the ***, just as it narrows the
mind.  And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the
*** boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no
need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry,
infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their
rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I
have done. And I am Caesar."   -- Julius Caesar
