LWFF - Separate axes in GPL?

by wtonsm.. » Mon, 03 Apr 2000 05:00:00

I love my Logitech Wingman Formula Force, but have a question.

I am trying out such advanced concepts as trail-braking, so I am
wondering can you set up separate axes for throttle vs brake with the
LWFF - and most importantly, have GPL respond?

I have tried changing the setting in the Wingman software, but it seems
that GPL still thinks I have only one axis - throttle goes one way,
brake the other.

My old Thrustmaster NASCAR pro was able to do completely independent
axes in GPL.

Anyone had any success doing this with the LWFF? If not, I guess you
can't trail-brake with this wheel?

Thanks in advance, wtonsmann

Try changing the setting in Windows Control Panel - Game Controllers.  You
have to UN-check the box that says:

Pedals reported as......combined.

The older versions of Wingman software had problems with this, make sure you
have an up-to-date version. You can find it in http://www.logitech.com.

Make sure you use DirectInput and not the "generic" driver in the
controller options screen.

LWFF - Separate axes in GPL?

I got this once.  Setup the LWFF for 3 axis in windows.  Then make sure you
recalibrate your controller in the options menu (or when booting).  I think
I might have had to create a new driver to get the menu to come, up, but the
settings then worked for my existing drivers.

LWFF - Separate axes in GPL?

Success!! Thanks for your reply Marshall, it got me on the right track.

What I had done previously and thought would be sufficient, was go to
Control Panel, Game Controllers, highlight the LWFF, click Properties,
Settings and UN-select "Pedals reported as combined (Single axis).

Yet after this, GPL still saw only the steering axis (1) and the
throttle and brake shared the other axis(2).

The trick was to ALSO go to Control Panel, Game Controllers, highlight
the LWFF, click Properties, then About, click Logitech Wingman Profiler
(mine is version 3.30.532 09/24/99). There, under Options, Global
Device Settings, you have to UN-select "Steering Wheel Settings -
Report Combined Pedals".

Now GPL sees the steering wheel on Axis 0, nothing on Axis 1, throttle
on Axis 2, and Brake on Axis 3.

And I can lay *** all the way down the straight from braking while
accelerating! It seems to me that this also gives increased range to
both the throttle and brake axes. We'll see if that improves my
driving.

Let the trail-braking begin. Thanks to all who replied.

Cheers, wtonsmann

Always a hidden selection somewhere. Thanks for this information. I thought
it was just me. <g>
