Guess I better get this question in before the wave hits for the full
version.

GPL demo runs fine but will freeze ever few laps or so. That's annoying
enough but I discovered the demo is still running! I hit Escape to see
what would happen, and sure enough, it exits out (properly) and of course
shows my last several amusing moments of life. That is, it shows me going
full speed toward the curve and never stop, instead going full throttle
into the trees. Even though the screen freezes, the program apparently
continues running even with the screen frozen. You can't see it, but you
are still driving the car! It's as though the driver has a seizure or
something.

Ideas?

I don't encounter these problems with the GPL demo, but I had the same
experience with ICR2 (aka CART). The picture froze, but the sim kept
running. Someone on this group advised that it could be a memory
problem. At first I didn't want to believe it, since the computer
showed this peculiar behavior at all bus speeds (even vanilla 66MHz),
but I later found out that one of my SIMMs was slightly faulty. The
prob never occurred in other programs, but ICR2 would freeze.
Setting the board clock to 66MHz and all memory timing settings in the
BIOS to "slow" did help. In the meantime, I replaced the memory.

Kurt,

I have the same problem. My problem is, I think, attributed to overclocking
my Pure 3D
graphics adapter. It was either getting too hot or overworked, I guess.
Anyway, I reset
everything on the card back to the defaults and I get a few more laps in
before it freezes.
I had hoped it was the sim and not my hardware, but setting the defaults
seemed to help
a little bit, at least.

I don't know if that will help you, but if you have a 3D card and you're
overclocking, give
it a try.

I had the same problem and eventually discovered that it was my
screensaver trying to kick in! I don't know if it is your problem but
it's worth a try. Took me ages to find and it always happened on a
really hot lap!
