Running Voodo2 at 800x600, after what seems like about 15 to 20 minutes,
the screen freezes up, but I can still here whatever was happening
continuing to happen. If I was driving, I hear the car slow down and
crash, or if I'm watching a replay, the replay keeps playing (I can hear
the sounds), but the csreen just freezes up. Anyone got any clues about
this?

GPL should be disabling the screen saver, but just to be sure does the
time to lockup reflect the time that the screensaver is set to (i.e.
with the screensaver set to turn on after one minute does it still take
15-20min to lockup or does it occur after only one minute of driving)?

This is overclocking of the Voodoo2.  I have a Canopus Pure 3D 2 and
disappointingly suffer the same problem.  I'm considering returning it since
it may be a one-off.  Canopus tech support assure me I should be safe to
have the speed above the default supplied 93Mhz.  I can run at 94Mhz but
more than that I start suffering the problems you describe.  If you've got a
room fan, try taking off the computer case and blasting cool air onto the
voodoo 2 card to see if you can run for longer.

The other time I have seen what you describe is when online during the beta
period and somebody paged me with an ICQ message.  Once you check the ICQ
configuration to not automatically pop-up messages, this went away.  Also
check you're not running any unusual screensavers.

i run no screensaver at all otherwise it freezes up the GPL demo. But
the way you describe it makes it sound like only weird screensavers
do that. I was running a standard Win95 Screensaver however.

You leave ICQ running while in GPL? ouch - that's about a 3-5%
performance hit right there. ICQ is pretty lame and uses up a
ridiculous amount of CPU just to sit there. (checked many a time with
the NT4.0 task manager)

I think the Voodoo is heating up or something.  It takes about 15 to 20
minutes for it to freeze up, but it apparently doesn't do it all the
time.

Weirdness...

There are plenty of Voodoo2 overclocking utilities out there, most of
which you can also use to underclock the cards.  Try this, or perhaps a
fan on the card and see if it helps.  If it does, you might want to
consider returning the card since it's overheating with the default
clock speed.

Already have two fans on it (lasagna fans).  I don't know why it would
overheat sometimes and not other times...

Maybe I should just get that Obsidian X24...

Mine has been doing the same...whether I run at 93 or 97...I wonder if
we have a Pure 3D II issue here?  I'm going to try the reference
drivers just to see.  I'm also wondering whether the fan on the card
is kicking in.

My box is pretty well cooled...I have 3 extra fans, and the temp runs
up to about 35C.

No freezing up with my V2200...and the temp in the case is the same.

Glide 3.0?????  I installed Glide 3 and had lockups. Went back to older reference
drivers and no probs.

I have a Pure3d2 and am experiencing the same thing.

Two things, from the posts in this thread, it seems obvious that its a
Canopus issue. It doesn't even seem to be limited to the Pure 3D2 in that at
least one guy with a regular Pure3d had something similar happen.

I've found a potential workaround: I reduced the clock to 90mhz in the
Pure3d II tab. Before doing this, I would lock up after just a few laps. Now
I can play for over an hour and have yet to experience the lockup again.

Post if it works for you too.

Hmmmm....  I upgraded to the latest "reference" drivers just before
installing GPL and don't have any problems.  Though it is interesting
that when I check "system info" I get the following:

WinGlide 2.x Driver Version 2.53
.....
WinGlide 3.x Driver Version 3.00
