ICR2: uvconfig / univbe question

Yes, I still play ICR2 once in a while, despite of GPL. :)

Here's the problem:

I have two machines capable of running ICR2 fine.

The one has a ELSA Erazor (Riva 128, 4MB) graphics card, the other a
ELSA Winner 1000 Trio T2D (S3 Trio, 2MB) (and a VooDoo1 which does not
enter the equation in this case, obviously.)

Both computers underwent serious changes recently, so I had to run the
UVconfig utility on both to make optimal use of the 2D chips.

UVconfig did not recognize the Riva card at all by itself, but when I
set the memory info to 4MB and the RAMDAC to "S3 Trio 24-bit", it
worked great, even though, to my knowledge, the Riva does not have a
S3 Trio chip at all.

Yet, when I tried UVconfig with the Trio card, it reported "unknown
S3", "2 MB" and "generic 8-bit RAMDAC". Setting the last point to "S3
Trio 24-bit" as well as "Generic 24-bit" resulted in a blank screen,
with the sim running in the background. ("I am Paul Page (or
something). From Papyrus, etc.").

Later on, I would always get a blank screen, no matter what settings.
It was only when I deleted all univbe.* files in the ICR2 directory
that the sim would display a picture at all. Yet, it is vastly
inferior to the display on the Riva. I think ICR2 is running in 8-bit
RAMDAC mode now, which isn't too beautiful.

Is there a newer (preferably free) version of UVconfig that would
recognize the S3 Trio T2D properly? Or a workaround to make the Trio
card work in 24-bit RAMDAC mode?
