What Ever Has Happened To Hockenheim in F1-2002?

by <somecallme.. » Sun, 16 Jun 2002 18:32:32

I've been going through all the track one by one in F1-2002 this week, which
is a spiffing good game indeed. Some of the track are more accurate/less
accurate than others but the way it drives and racing against the AI is just
brilliant.

I got fired up Hockenheim and started blasting down the first straight but
to my horror at the first chicane the road went off to the right! it then
wiggled about a bit then up the a really tight hairpin and back onto the
normal track at the stadium section. What has happen to it, is the 2002
German GP going to be on this crappy short go-cart track? I certainly hope
not as the full track is one of the few where it's easy to overtake.

Is there a chance that the full track can be imported from F1-2001?

That's the new track layout for Hochenheim.

Yup, Hockenheim has been butchered. What kind of laptimes are you running
there now?

Jan./not a clue on the import issue, sorry.

Yup, Hockenheim has been butchered.

I think Nurburgring has been ruined also. It wasn't all that good to begin
with, but with 4 100 kph turns in a row to start a lap, it's now kind of
Mickey Mouse.

Yes, Tim the Enchanter, that's the BRAND, SPANKIN' NEW HOCKENHEIMRING!
Sad, idn't it?

I know of no pre-2002 Hockenheim track imports as of yet, but be
patient, and it will come, I'm sure.

BTW, I had the same exact reaction to Hockenheimring as you did on F1
2002. Although I had expected it since I had seen the track layout
earlier this year, it still came as a shock to drive it. I nearly
cried when I looked at it. Not only is the track being run at UNDER a
minute now, all the great trees lining the first long straight are
pushed back, and all of the character of the circuit has been
disintegrated, IMO. That new section reminds me of Sepang, which is
one of the most antiseptic circuits on the F1 calendar.

I guess if you want the full Hockenheim before it turned into
HACKEDenheim, you ought to get F1 2001.

I loved the old Hockenhiem too. I'll add it to F1 2002 when someone converts
it. I drove the new HockenHiem in F1 2002 and I like it. The new section is
more interesting to drive and more fun to drive than three long sections with
the throttle floored. The lap times are 1 minute and 25 seconds. I suspect
they will be near 1:20 at this years race. I you are running under 1 minute
in F1 2002 you must have found a short cut.

I will probably lose a lot of my fans here on RAS, but I like the new
Hockenheim layout better than the old one..

I have to agree with you and Bob on this one.  Okay I don't have to but
I will anyway.  ;o)  I can certainly understand why some people will
always like the old one better, but I never got used to the feel of
having those long high speed sections interrupted by chicanes.  Same
reason as why I don't like the modern Monza, it feels wrong to me.  OTOH
the new Hockenheimring reminds me a lot of the new A-1 Ring - a few
medium length straights separated by low speed corners (which creates
some great passing opportunities if you've got the balls), and a more
technical section where you can pressure the guy in front of you or pull
farther ahead of the less skillfull people behind you.  After only a few
laps I really started to like the rhythm of the new layout.  People were
very skeptical about the A-1 Ring when it debuted, but I think now that
we have had a few races there most people like it.  Similarly, I think
that after a few races people will gain a different perspective and the
new Hockenheimring will also be able to stand on its own merits.

Haven't found 2002 yet around here, but the old Hock was never my
favorite.  I could tolerate it, but chicanes in general leave me cold.
(fell down too much trying to navigate chicanes with World Superbike 2001)
So any track that is closer to A1 than the Old Hock gets my vote...I may
change my mind after I see it...but for now..new is better.
