Has anybody else had this same prob under W2k or an other OS..

Your friend needs the Direct3D patch. Go to www.papy.com and click on the Downloads
section. Then you'll have another option for graphics in GPL, Direct3D, which should
work with the GF4. You should also get the 1.2 patch/update while you're there.

There's your problem right there - he's trying to select the graphics
mode for a Rendition V1000/2000 card - a very old 3d accelerator that
GPL was originally coded to work with (at the time it was *the* card
for GPL).
With a GF4 your friend should be running using Direct3D, using the D3D
patch that a great Papy employee wrote (Grant Reeve).
My guess is that he has a totally unpatched version of GPL, and most
likely needs and would benefit from the *tons* of great addons. Check
out the Highgear (www.sportplanet.com/hg) GPL forums for a thread
covering the "must have" downloads for GPL. There really are too many
to list, but once he sees it in all its glory - watch out! - and
prepare not to hear from your friend for weeks, unless you race him on
VROC ;)!
