I was wondering what the preferred settings are to get GPL running with a
GF4?  A mate told me I needed the D3D patch, but when I try to start a race
it just crashes the machine.

Did you edit the core.ini file as required? adding the D3D lines to it.  See
D3D read me file if you have not.

Did you apply the cpufix patch?  This is for computers that are too
fast.
