Just ran there online with Fixed setups, 70d
That's my first try at this track in N2003 but dag, guys were doing 30.0-30.1s.

Man, that's too fast for me.  I watched a couple of replays and some guys were shifting down to 2nd, staying in 4th for just a
moment.
I could not drive the car at all like that.

Started playing with the aids, and got down to one sub 30.5 but that was it.  One of the fast guys there I know and he doesn't use
any 'tricks', other than shifting so I can't *** about that.

I did notice the camber was a fraction off from the fast setup but otherwise it felt the same.  Wish I had saved that one while
online to compare them but I still doubt I could've gone much faster.

If I recall, its been awhile since I ran here. The fast setup is pretty
good. By playing with the camber and caster you can have a very good setup.
    Personally, I don't like the track. :-)

This is not a good sign if *Tim* thinks someone is too fast...<g>

Aussie drive

Be very wary in watching others in car's for reference for gears etc. There
seems to be a glitch in showing other drivers using incorrect gears when
watching in car views for other drivers via the replay/live race feed
screen. I have found that the only way to get "correct" gear, speed and
braking infomation is by downloading someones replay and watching that in
the replay section of the game.

Replays can be found anywhere (via google search) but Torn8oalley seem to
have a few from memory. You could even watch the AI in an offline race for a
fair indication while learning the track.

I too found it most disturbing to think that I had to make weird gear
changes at the most inappropriate times until I discovered that it was a
glitch. Hundereds of blown engines later.........hehehe

Hope it helps

Tim.. I just raced there in SSCA last night with fixed setups.

I was in the same boat.. my fastest practice lap was a 30.5 while there were
about 6-7 guys that were pulling 30.0-30.3

Do not let those speeds throw you off, during the race I was just as fast as
they were.  Once it got past 1-2 laps, they would slow down to the same
speed as everyone else.. and actually fall off a bit more as the laps
continued on

I don't like flat tracks period, but it sure is better than PIR :)

That damned crooked wall at PIR gets me EVERY time.

Eldred - Not only that, but Tim isn't complaining about it being tight,
which means it will be miserable loose for the rest of us :)

I hadn't thought of that, but now that you mention it, I did think it was a bit loose for me

OKAY, big sigh of relief in the Cheer Chevrolet Monte Carlo garage this week lol

Switched over from the sequential gearbox to the direct selection option so I could downshift from 4th right into 2nd.

Shifting like this late in the turns, not only did the car handle better, and not lurch around going back up thru the gears on the
str8s, but I immediately went to 30.1-30.2s.  Didn't run a lot of laps, just enough to know this is what I needed.

Switching gearboxes like that would be a huge adjustment, even for an old guy like me, without a LOT of laps.  Although the car
seems to handle much better (it is actually smoother going thru the gears like this) the line is much more unforgiving.  If those
buttons are not automatic for you, like somewhere deep way back in your sub conscious, it'll come around on you :)

For me, I loved it, but I won't use this gearbox without some serious seat time.  If your already using direct selection, hold in
4th late in the turns, just past the mid point, before going to 2nd.  Shift back up thru all the gears, 3 and 4.

You shift to 2nd too soon and you'll spin it, too late and you'll lose the benefit.

Serious roadies should have a blast with this one haha.

I should give some kudos to Papy for 'sneaking' in a gear ratio that would allow a guy to test his limits on shifting gears on an
oval.

It's loose in, tight off. Is better in traffic, so that's a blessing.
Judging by my AI practise, passing is not going to be easy, but the car
doesn't go away very quickly. Best for me is a low 31, without shifting.

If people keep their heads screwed on right, we might have a good one.
