OK, so it may not be that special to you, but it means a lot to me!

After spending ages stuck being able to consistently lap at 1:30.2 to
1:30.6, I finally coaxed some more speed out of my Lotus (or top be more
accurate, my driving!)

I reeled of about 10 laps of low 1:30.xx's, then decided to "go for it".
Hmmmm.  The next two laps were 1:33 and 1:35 as I spent far to much time on
unintentional nature rambles.  Eased off *slightly*.  And, lo and behold,
was rewarded with my first sub 1:30 lap.

Now to try and replicate it in the other cars.....

When you *try* to push the envelope, it gets worse.  I feel the same way.  So,
how do you stretch out without 'stretching'?

Im exactly the same .  .  .  When I stress about having to win a race I
always spin out or crash.  I find my best laps are when my eyes arent even
focused on the screen - that relaxed.

I finally went sub 1:30 a couple of weeks back, but didn't even
realise!! I found that racing the AI has made me a more consistent and
faster driver, without going too far. All this "striving" for a sub
1:30 made me slower, but when I was in a race and had a lot to lose, I
was consistent and also faster. Just concentrated better on the
"ultimate" corner exits to the straights, and voila!

I also get the same results.  If I try for a *** I will just spend my
time spinning round in circles and demolishing cars against walls,
guardrails, trees etc.

I find that if I just try to do a certain number of laps without crashing I
will end up with a good time.  To prove my point most of my fastest race
laps are faster than my fastest qualifying laps.  I guess it is something
which just takes lots of patience.  I also find that if you spend too long
on one track you reach a point where your performance doesn't improve.  I
try to switch between tracks (and f1,f2, f3) and often find when I go back
to a particular track even after maybe a weeks break I am almost immediatly
as fast or faster.

Same thing here. I managed a 1.28.72 just training without being too
concentrated. When I'm concentrated I'm trying too hard and go too far. I
can win against AI (after 5 restarts) I start making mistakes when I feel
someone is getting close or when I'm getting lined up to pass. I try to just
race my own race without worrying about the competition. It works most of
the time but it gets so hard when I get in a fight.

BTW greetz from Mr. Hankey

Well, I've been running different tracks (and a different car) for the TCC
racing league I'm in.  We'll see how it affects my driving...<g>
