Its only taken, well, since the first GPL Monza demo? But I've finally
gone and done it....

A sub 1:30 lap at Monza, 1:29:88 to be precise.

8-)

I was just getting ready to go out for my usual game of Monday night
squash (complete with a few pints afterwards!) and I had half an hour to
spare, "quick blast round Monza" I thought.

I load up GPL, jump into a pre-saved Monza game (where I've already
qualified mid pack) lose a few places at the start, (nothing unusual
there then for me!) I gradually fight my way through the backmarkers,
and I have a bit of space with no one in front of me for a while.

I put my toe down and go for it (previous to this lap I'd already done a
1:30 lap) but, its not a very clean lap, I drift wide at the Curva
Grand, I clip the left hand kerb before going under the bridge, and I
almost overcook it when exiting the Parabolioca! But amazingly I've
broke my duck and gone under 1:30

Don't you just love this program.....

Well done...  My best is a 1:30:10.  Even then it was like I just won the
lottery.  I'm looking forward to the big one... (sub 1:30..)

Ain't it strange??? I really don't think a person should feel quite so much
satisfaction from a frickin' GAME! Hell, I *almost* got wood myself when that
1:29.78 popped up on my screen a while back.
I just had a revellation tonight as well... Just got a sub 8:30 lap at
the'Ring... with a TM GP1 wheel no less... Blasted it with a 8:24.16!!! I ran
upstairs to tell my wife... she could hear the e***ment in my voice...she
really tried to act like she gave a shit. God bless her...
Sub 2:00 at Rouen??? Dammit. I was gonna relax this weekend, too...

Warlock!

Time, practice, confidence, knowledge of the track, knowledge of the setups
and knowledge of the car.   All those are very important in Grand Prix
Legends.  Let's understand that not everybody has the capabilities to push
those cars to the limits, it is remember a very difficult simulator.  It
took me quite time to get under 1:30 at Monza.  I've finally done it with a
Honda half a year after I got GPL, but still I was able at that time to do a
8min18second lap at the Nurburgring.

Nobody has a "problem", please...

Makes it worthwhile.  The two *games* I've received more satisfaction from
than any others are Longbow 2 and GPL--by far.

And the reason I've enjoyed both of them so much are not necessarily from
any great in-game accomplishments, per se, but from simply finally "getting
it" when it comes to controlling the beasts featured in each sim.  Making
that chopper and those cars do *what* I want *when* I want (well, most of
the time, anyway) is enjoyment itself.  To me, simply flying and driving in
these two are a lot of fun.  I know it's nothing like the real thing, but
it's still closer than I ever hoped to be.

The rest is icing.

LOL!

That's -so- true.  The amount of times I've bored my wife with tales of
online races...  It's sad as hell, but when something gives such a sense of
achievement and satisfaction you feel compelled (well I do, anyway) to share.
And she's like "Yes dear, I'm sure it's a very nice video game".

So I'm not the only one with this problem! My girlfriend listened to
my GPL stories for about a year, and recently she had a serious talk
with me, telling very carefully that my GPL stories didn't interest
her so much...

At last! A chance to boast about my GPL prowess. Well a little bit. I always
have been able to do
sub 1:30 at Monza fairly easily. I've always thought it was because the
track is so simple. I recommend Riccardo Nunnini's set-ups (as advertised in
this ng. Sorry, I've lost the URL) - much better for me than <heresy alert>
Alison Hine's understeering set-ups with the front end washing out all the
time. That plus the speed of the Lotus does it for me.

Now if someone can give me some pointers for breaking 3:22 at Spa.... Oh,
and 9:59.99 for the 'Ring...

Yes Jerry,

Ditto here, we both know that those two sims are the best ever made (up to
now) for multiplay.

Also had a nice experience.
I drive the coventry since AH's famous setups came out. Only getting a 1:31:xx
few times, I already was convinced to be a horrible driver.
Few days ago I tried the Lotus (Nunnini-setup):
opening lap: dunno the time, was fighting against the car
second lap: 1:30:xx     oha!!!
third lap:      1:29:5x Ups!!

I guess I have to change the car - if not only anybody would drive the Lotus -
sigh
