GPL, TNT and screen res?

by Bill Cranst » Tue, 10 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hi.  I'm a newbie GPL driver and I believe this topic was raised
before, I just can't find it in this ng (maybe it was localnews...).

Anyhow, I have a Creative Labs Riva TNT card and, using the OpenGL
beta 2 patch, I can't run GPL at a res higher than 640x480.  When I
try and enter the***pit at 800x600 or beyong the screen goes blank
though I hear the engine idling.

Is this common amongst TNT owners?  I'm using the drivers that came
with the card (purchased last week btw).  Should I dl any drivers off
the Net?

Some other ?s I had:

I'm starting off with the BRM at Monza (told ya I was a newbie ;).  At
advanced (GP2?) I'm turning 1:45s - is that any good or am I the only
one stupid enough to even bother with the BRM?

Why is it that when I start a race at any level, I'm always in a GP1
car?  Can't we race using GP2-3 cars?

Where's the overhead view?  Ok I know they didn't have that in '67 but
that can be said of most of the camera angles.

In N2 we could jot down notes from within the setup menu - why was
that taken out in GPL?  I find a tremendous need to write a book while
fiddling in the garage given all the paramters to deal with.

It's too bad we can't adjust the length of the race beyond Novice,
Int-Short, Pro-Long, etc.  Anyone know why we can't run a 40-lapper at
Monza, for example?  From 21 to 68 laps is quite a jump.

Hmm, guess these other ?s are geared more towards a beta tester.
Hopefully one will read this.

Thanks in advance,

Bill.

btw, GPL is incredibly fun!  Those Lotus' are down right spooky fast!

GPL, TNT and screen res?

You'll most likely have better luck with the NVidia reference drivers
or the latest drivers Creative has made available.  You might also
want to try switching the res by getting into the car, hitting F3, and
then going to the Graphics Options screen.
