F1RS - Help, can't run

by Michael Concin » Thu, 25 Dec 1997 04:00:00

Has anyone had a problem getting F1 RS to run ?  When I launch and get to
the single player/multiplayer choice menu I get kicked back to the win 95
desktop with a "F1voo performed an illegal operation" message.  I'm using a
pure3d/millenium II combo on my ppro 200/128 MB ramsystem.

Thanks
Mike

I too have this problem.  I have tried every thing including re-installation
of Win95 with just the drivers and DirectX 5 but ended up with the same
results.  Sent some e-mail to UbiSoft and got a "no support for PowerVR as
yet" reply.  This is funny as it says Direct 3d support in the system
requirements.  The two patches they have released do nothing to correct this
PowerVR problem but maybe the next one will.  Good luck.

It's not quite the same.  When installing the game, it recognizes that I
have voodoo graphics and installs the 3DFx version.  I would love to see
this game run.

I was unable to get the game to run.  Then I noticed another's post about a
possible conflict with Monster Sound.  I put the device in safe mode,
re-booted and tried F1RS again...it worked !
First race was Melbourne in the rain (I finished dead last; it was a
disaster).  The game is truly a work of art.  Incredible !!!  Get this game
if you have any interest in F1 Racing.

I had a similar problem where the game wouldn't go beyond the intro
and return to Windows. The solution that worked for me was to increase
the virtual memory setting. It was previously set to 32 megs.
I increased to 64 megs and... Voila!
I hope this help you...

Thanks for the suggestion, but I resolved my problem.  I have a Monster
Sound which I put into "safe mode"- no more problem.
