F1RS won't run- DirectDraw Enumerate error HELP!!

by Stephen Battiss » Sun, 11 Jan 1998 04:00:00

Hi all,

I just bought F1RS a few hours ago and after a few attempts at
installation it finally ran through the install OK.  I run the game
and it briefly switches screen modes then comes up with the following
error:

There is no 3D present
In : DirectDraw Enumerate

My system is P166, 32Mb EDO, Diamond Stealth 2Mb (old). I have
DirectX5 installed and other games run with it OK.  I know this runs
much better with 3DFX and the like but I at least wanted to play it
for a while to see if I could justify $300 worth of 3DFX when it'll
only be used for one game (sim).  Is my video card simply not D3D
compatible and hence game won't run no matter what I do?

Maybe I have to fast forward buying the 3DFX card afterall?  If so,
does anyone have any clues on which card is best?  There seems to be
so many on the market at the moment.  Till then it's back toi GP2 I
guess...

Cheers
Steve

From what I hear, the Canopus Pure3d 3dfx pass through card is a real
winner. They are a little backlogged on them though, so there's somewhat of
a wait. Check it out at www.canopuscorp.com

To the best of my knowledge F1RS requires 4mb memory on the video card.

Yes, it requires hardware 3D acceleration and 4 meg video ram.
