I have an Elsa GeForce 2 MX in my P3 866, and it was a great deal for
the $120 it cost at the time I bought it.

There is a Direct 3D patch for GPL now that will run great on the
GeForce. Colin McRae 1 & 2 also run great on it.
I only have the first Tomb Raider game, and I think that's Glide only.
I imagine the later ones have Direct 3D support, but I don't really
know. <?>

I think you're going to see a major improvement in all of your games.

GPL will run in D3D with a patch from Papy.  I don't know how it will run on
the ATI card, but it will be ok on a GF2 mx.  If you can afford a GF2 gts
then I'd get that instead though.

If you mean Tomb Raider 1, then I seem to remember the 3d card patch was
Glide only (maybe someone knows for sure?), so you'd need to keep your V1
in.  All the subsequent Tomb Raiders (2-5) were D3D.

CMR and GP3 are both fine on a GF2 mx, dunno about the ATI card.

Has anyone compared a GeForce 256 DDR to a GeForce 2 MX to see which
is better/faster, in GPL?

From what I've seen, it's pretty even.  The GeForce DDR steps ahead in some
tests, and the MX in others.

I think it's a wash.

If you found the ATI All-in-wonder card useful you might consider the RADEON
version of All-in-wonder.  I had the AIW Pro 8mb AGP card when I bought Nascar4
and could barely get the game to start...constantly locked up etc.

The ATI RADEON AIW though rather pricey works great (with drivers from web
site) and keeps the TV tuner and capture features which I bought the AIW for in
the first place.

Heh. You're jumping like 3 generations of CPU development from your
old machine to your upgrade. I did that once, going from a lousy Cyrix
150+ to a Pentium 2 400.

Running some games that got 16fps on the Cyrix and watching the frame
rate counter rise up into the 90's was nearly unbelievable.
Very cool experience.

Well, I've got you both. I jumped from 14Mhz to 600Mhz (as the 14Mhz
machine was an Amiga it wasn't nearly as sad as it sounds though, a PC at
that clock couldn't be used even for word-processing while the Amiga was
pretty snappy, as much so as the 600Mhz machine for some things, except for
above 640x480 and for 3D stuff, not that the latter isn't pretty important
these days).
