I used to have this problem.  What are your overall force effects set at?
If they're substantially over 100%, the motor can overheat.  I was told this
a while ago by a Logitech rep at www.wingmanteam.com - good resource, BTW...

Morris,
Just had the same problem with SBK2001. I found that I had both my
USB FF controllers connected via a "usb hub". Then I was told by a
kind gentlemen on here that this might be the problem [& he gave me
other great tips] with my setup for my FF wheel & FF j/s.. It was!!
Thanx Kendt Eldund!! :)  -Thom_j.

Have u tried Viagra?  Just Kidding.  I tend to agree about the overheating
possibility.

Interesting.  I am having the same problem with the same
game and the same wheel.  My system is not up to your
specs, however (P3 550, 128M).

I probably have the overall force set well above 100%.
But I can run a 50% race in Nascar Heat without losing FF
(never tried longer).  I'll try lowering the overall
setting next time I play N4.

Hi Morris,

I'm not sure it's overheating - I have N4 and the same wheel as you, and no
probs (overall force = 90%), but if it is (are you living in a hot area?),
here's a few thoughts.

- if the motor is overheating and you didn't by accident stop the airflow in
and out of the wheel, you might consider requesting a new one under warranty
conditions. Overheating shouldn't occur while racing on ovals, as this
doesn't seem to put such a high load on the motor

- AFAI understand, the higher you set the overall power, the coarser the
steps from one FF level to the next will be. I.e., with a level of 90%
overall, you'll have smoother FF than with a setting of 150%. Note that you
can also affect the FF in N4. All three parameters affect the motor load. I
think with a high latency setting, you'll get more motor action than with a
low setting. The same applies to the Dampening. The force setting of course
also determines how high the generated forces are and hence strain the
motor.

- I've noticed that different setups in N4 can create much different
steering forces. I haven't really looked into this yet, but could imagine
that caster is one of the values affecting this, and probably the weight
distribution.

- if you're referring to ovals mainly, as you know many of the basic setups
come with a pull to the left. That pull allows us to steer left less
severely all the time, as it gives the car a certain bias. If you were to
create setups that don't have that pull, or setups that in some other way
create more resistance to turning left than other drivers' setups do, your
LWFF's motor may indeed run hotter than their's.

I hope some of this helped, but if it doesn't, I wouldn't rule out Windows
or the Logi drivers somehow losing connection to the motor controller, the
controller maybe being defective and hence susceptible to heat, or simply a
solder point or cable being affected by the heat changes?

Hi all..I had set my overall ff %to in the 80's in N4 and lost my ff a 1/4
of the way in two league races. Pick up races at sierra are no problem with
high forces but a long race with extended practice, qualifying, warmup, and
say 50% lap setting these forces will disappear.

I have a TSW which is great but I feel the ff in N4 is done quite well
(better than gpl IMO) and love to use it. I wish there was a fix for this
problem in the long races.
