GPL (1.2) won't run! (2000 bug?)

by Dave Hawn » Sun, 02 Jan 2000 04:00:00

Hi,
I switched on my computer after New Years Eve....
Now my GPL won't load!!!  I have the US 1.2 update, been
working fine, no problem.... I did run short of disc space (to
many replays ;-), But I have resolved that problem now, but
still can't get GPL to run, it comes up with a loading box for
a few seconds, then goe's back to the W98 desktop.....!!
Do I have (will you have) a YTK bug?
Any ideas please for a fix. or will I have to re-install?
Only other thing I can think, is I installed a second driver
to my players list yesterday so I can run F2 set-ups!

For some reason my computer changed graphic card drivers, reinstalled
new drivers and all has been fine on my machine. Maybe a similar
problem?

Well, unfortunately GPL wouldn't run on any of my pc's either. I did a
test and changed the date back to 1999 and GPL runs normally, have you
tried that?
Of course I can't keep the date in 1999 just for gpl but it looks to
me that this particular version of the executable file has a y2k
problem.
I have now replaced the executable with the original gpl.exe 1.2 from
the 1.2 patch and it works no problem, the only problem being that I
now have to again insert the cd before I play, I think we going to
have to find another no cd version of the .exe file as this one
definitely does not work after the date change.
 Cheers.

Mauricio.

Where did you get your gpl.exe from?
is it the original from sierra's patch or is it a no-cd version of the
.exe file?
I think mine must be the us version as it clearly does not work. But
the original 1.2 does but I have to insert the cd.

Thanks

Mauricio.

My US 1.2 is working just fine... are you sure there isn't some other
problem involved?

It works fine for me.  As a matter of fact, I've set PB's on 2 tracks using the
Brabham, of all things...<g>

Happens on my machine as well.
It just plain won't execute at all.

In Australia we get the US version.

I use v2 sli and my copy of GPL is
so heavily modified I can't reinstall.

Someone tell me how to fix this because
it works when I set the date back.

Hi,

I've read a couple of posts about the 1.2 patch not working anymore
(after january 1).

I think this could be because you don't run the official 1.2.0.1 patch,
but rather the betapatch 1.2.0.0.

If you applied the "datecrack" posted in r.a.s som months ago for this
betapatch you would get these problems IIRC. I don't remember exactly,
but I think it only changed a check "if month > 9" to "if month < 9" -
then not start.

While this worked in october-december, it will not work in january.

Get the official 1.2.0.1 patch! (Or download a proper "datecrack" if
you really want to use 1.2.0.0)

Cheers,

Martin

Just curious, had you used the GPL Oval Converter prior to this occurrence?
The Converter did some strange things to my drivers and DLL's, neither N3 or
GPL would load. I did a re-install of both games and now both work again. It
probably has nothing to do with the converter but I am just curious. Anyone
else get DLL error messages after using the converter with a Voodoo based
card? It would only allow me to run in software mode, so I just
re-installed.

Had the same problem, downloaded the 1.2 patch once again and reinstalled
it, worked fine from then on.  Don't know why, but it did.

Beers and cheers
