Gpl 1.2 exe doesn't work?

Thats simply because the GPL 1.2 "patch" thats out on the net is a leaked
beta or something...

The EXE-file "expires" on October 1st. meaning that once your PC(or win
clock) pass over to October... the file wont load at all...
Turn the clock back to september... and Hey Presto!!

Gpl 1.2 exe doesn't work?

Funny thing is that I was playing with my system and cleared the cmos
earlier in the day and set the date wrong,no go 1.2, when I realized the
actual date I fixed it and by chance gave the patch another shot and no
problems. I never put 2 and 2 together. I can understand wanting control
over beta testing but a self destructing exe for such a niche game with core
fans (just trying to fix what they didn't break) seems a bit much. Anyway, I
do appreciate papy working out the problems, and it seems they are on the
right track.

Gpl 1.2 exe doesn't work?

by Jonathan Madde » Sat, 02 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Hello, can anyone help me out here? Yes I know this patch is unofficial but
I can't get the exe to work for me. From a brand new (US) install to 1.1 and
then trying for 1.2 but nothing happens. I extracted the zip into sierra\gpl
overwritting the 1.1 exe. Anyone else experiencing this?

Gpl 1.2 exe doesn't work?

I installed 1.2, started gpl and it worked fine. Then I quit GPL,
started vroc and joined a race at Monza.
I was very happy with the update, the connection was absolutely
P-E-R-F-E-C-T !!!
After the race I quit GPL and VROC. I wanted to train offline, so I
started GPL.

Nothing happened.

I restarted my pc, clicked on gpl.exe, and still nothing happened.
I reinstalled 1.2, still nothing.
Then I installed 1.1003 and gpl worked again.
Finally reinstalled 1.2, and gpl.exe didn't work anymore.

I really, really start to think that this is a leaked BETA indeed :(

Funny :)
Indeed, it was around midnight that I got this problem. And turning
back the clock does work indeed.

Ok, no more discussions about the update being a beta or not can be
dropped, this is the proof.
