So the decade of the 90's is from 1991 to 2000?  Don't think so.
The whole thing is semantics anyway.  If you think about it logically, you can
see the point on BOTH sides...

> Um, no.
> There was no Year 0 A.D.
> First Millennium: Year 1 to Year 1000 A.D.
> Second Millennium: Year 1001 to Year 2000
> Third Millennium: Year 2001 to Year 3000  (note to IT people:  Start
> planning for Y3K).

Actually, the IT people should be prepared for Y-10-K.
They've only added 2 digits to the date counter, which means
that all computers better be up to date by the year 9999 AD.

Ah, well.  The fearmongers and their crackpot buddies are
_still_ telling us that Doomsday is Monday, when all the bus-
inesses get started back up again.  Tell that to the rest of
us who actually checked ahead of time...

And it's a moot point with me.  The Earth is still rotat-
ing on its axis, the sun is still rising and setting on-
schedule, and the tides are still turning.  Someone better
go visit the crackpots in their caves and give them their
old Win95 PCs; mine is still working fine nearly 36 hours
after the predicted End Of The World.

Meanwhile, as I'm going to be seeing how my new Compaq
notebook will handle N3 and N1999, perhaps those poor
suckers will be paying the con artists who sold them on
the idea that every computer in the world was going to
blow up a little visit.  I may even provide the gasoline
for their torches.

Have a better year this year than you've had last year,
Y'all...

Uhhh, no you can't.  Sorry, I've been trying to stay out of these
wars, but stubborn idiots have pushed me to my limit.  You don't
start counting ANYTHING with "0", you start counting things with
ONE.  As in "year ONE", as in "year ONE to 100 was the first
century.  Year ONE to 1000, was the first millennium, and year
Two Thousand and ONE will start the NEXT millennium."

So, you say that we count as follows:

2 Before Christ
1 Before Christ
1 After Christ
2 After Chrst etc.

Then we forget the year in which christ was born, which must be the year
0!

Hmmm...and you are using a computer, huh?  Where does the binary system your
entire computer is based on start counting?

That's not "counting", that's the digits available for your use.

Open up a dozen of eggs and count them.  The digit "0" is available
for use (you'll use it later, when you get to "ten"), but you don't
call the first egg "zero", you count it as "one", and unless you're
a total dolt, you'll end up at 12.

Are you always that happy? :-)))

Well, beyond the obvious of the change of year providing a time for
looking ahead and hoping for better things etc, some of us enjoy having
a good time!

I must not be a total dolt because when I buy a DOZEN eggs I already know
there's 12 without having to count them.

Are you calling *me* a stubborn idiot?
So how do YOU count the decade of the 90's?  With decades, people count from
"0".  I.E. 1990 - 1999.  For the millenium, people count from "1", because
there was no year zero.  1901-2000, and the next millenium starts with 2001.
Therefore, there are two different counting methods, which would seem to
conflict with each other.  Simple.  No need to get hostile.
