What the hell? Am I the only one with a working PC on New Years morn? Or
are all of you just light-weights? Happy freaking New Mellinium peeps! I
hope you all crash hard in turn one just because you're all too damn
hungover to judge the corner! Yes, I'm stoned on Jack Daniels, so you
have no excuse; unless you're all f***ing right now. Buzz me, or flame
me, hell I don't care, I made it!!! Have fun!

P.S. Damn, I can still type.

   I'm awake at 0541! I wasn't partying though. I was baby-sitting the power
plant I work at all night. We came through Y2K without a glitch. I was at
least hoping for a >little< glitch just to make it interesting. Oh well. I
sent the wife and kids to the parents for the weekend just in case I didn't
get home, so now I have the whole place to myself--time for some DTR!!

Not. It's been 1000 years since the year 1000, that's a Millenium. If
you want to get really technical about it, most scholars agree that
Jesus was born in 4-5 BC, so the "millenium" was four years ago.

Same experts also generally think he wasn't born on 12/25 either.  The day
we use for Xmas was actually conveniently co-opted by early Xtians, being at
that time already a pagan celebration of the winter solstice.

Joe, it's based on the fact that we (the vast bulk of the so-called
"western world") use the Gregorian calendar.  We count a decade as being
ten years, the first year is year 1 (not year 0) and the last year in the
decade is year 10 (not year 0).
Therefore a century is from Year 1 to Year 100 and a millennium is from
Year 1 to Year 1000.

To conclude, the 20th. century ends at midnight Year 2000 and the 21st.
century starts in 2001.

That's probably technically true, but for me 2000 is much better to
celebrate than 2001 :-)

Um, no.
There was no Year 0 A.D.
First Millennium: Year 1 to Year 1000 A.D.
Second Millennium: Year 1001 to Year 2000
Third Millennium: Year 2001 to Year 3000  (note to IT people:  Start
planning for Y3K).
Finally, the Millennium isn't based on when Jesus was born, it's based on
the calendar year.  The calendar is based on an estimate of when Jesus was
born, but the notion that the calendar inventors got the year and date wrong
is moot.

Their is a new racing coming out sim called "millenium"? Or is it
"Mellooneyum"? I cant really remember. Not that I'm getting off topic now
but the important thing is that I had this onion on my belt and my friend
likes strawberry ice-cream. Is any of this making sense? I figured this was
a good post to attach a thread like this to.
Happy holidays guys and see you in the fence!

Why celebrate the fact that you are one year closer to the grave?
I can appreciate not forgetting one's birthdate, where we raise a glass
to the fact that we were born,  but I cannot understand this almost
hysterical euphoria that occurs at the end/beginning of each year.  Why?
