Dirt Track Racing is still enjoying its position as the only racing simulation
ranked in the TOP 20 in units sold.  One can say all they want about all
the other racing simulations, but they are no where to be found. Its no
wonder that DTR is taking over the racing world.   Dirt Racing in the
united states with 732 is attended yearly by over 70 million fans.  If you
are wanting for a great racing simulation.  DTR is a no brainer.

I haven't had the pleasure of DTR yet and I'm not slamming it - it
looks quite enjoyable, and I plan on grabbing it myself but sales
don't necessarily make a killer game....   MYST anyone?

DTR was a budget title from the start. Those sales figures tell nothing
about the quality of a sim. I bought it and I'm disappointed, even though
I'd rank Powerslide as one of my favourite games ever.

Since when do high sales prove anything, esp. if a game is a sim or not?
As the audience for *** sims is rather small, exactly the opposite
should be the case.

You know, I don't think Wilshe actually *reads* this newsgroup--I think he
merely considers it to be one of his "marketing avenues."  Thus he can tell
a client that he reached "x" numbers of potential customers today.  He does
seem blind to the fact (at least I hope it's a fact) that this a group for
discussion and not blatant advertising.

Bit pathetic, but there you go . . .

Yes I read the newsgroup and assist troubled users for all sims when i can.
I also believe that
people that are looking for information about sim products whether they be
steering wheels or
software want information on the status of product.  Whether its a good
wheel or a great software
the public deserves to know the current status.  I will not apologize that
DTR is #1 in unit sales.

Maybe a few years ago Don, But it's been a long time since your post have
anything to do with something other then DTR or Leadfoot. It's ok to make
money and its ok to work for those guys. And rarely do I ever see you
respond to a thread unless it is one you started.  And your post are almost
pure advertising sometimes. Granted its a good game. I did nothing for me,
but hell what I like has nothing to do with what is good.

Cya later Don, do you ever race N3 anymore?

I love Powerslide, too. DTR would have been OK if there were some non-oval
tracks included. Yeah, there are some variations on ovals, but ultimately I
find the whole experience rather boring. Online racing, even on ovals, can
be quite fun, and the DTR multiplayer code is really good. I think Leadfoot
looks like it may be OK.

I don't mind the budgetary positioning, to be honest. There are many more
products that I think would do better if the manufacturers set a lower unit
price and targeted a larger market.

Thanks for the info Don. I actually do apppreciate hearing interesting news about sims other than those made by Papyrus.

Maybe when this thread cools off, I'll throw out some sales figures and reviews of RC2000 and watch the fan club get hot and bothered about nothing all over again.  :-)

Man, everyone's picking on you, Don, and I don't know why. I don't
know who you are (I'm relatively new to this group) but I absolutely
love DTR. The Papyrus sims were fun (the first CART one was the best)
but lately, they've been getting way too much into microsimulation. If
I want that kind of detail, I can go to the Skip Barber School and
just do it for real instead of in front of a screen.

I LOVE DTR. This is the kind of racing I grew up with. Every week, my
family would head out to Eriez Speedway in Erie, PA and watch a
non-NASCAR-sponsored dirt track blowout. Now I live out near Seattle
and I find myself heading up to the Monroe track for a small asphalt
(NASCAR-sponsored) evening and while that's fun, I miss the dirt. DTR
brings all of that back to me. The game is a lot of fun, and I find
it's in my CD tray a lot more than any of the Papyrus sims. I want to
have fun, not work like a dog to drive a car. Anyway, just wanted to
let you (and anyone who cares) that DTR is really worth its $20.

There are some problems with the game: no sprint cars. And the
sponsorship model is a bit weak (but it's still cool and one of the
neatest things about the game compared to other titles). Aw, no one's
really going to listen anyway. To hell with it, I'm shutting down and
playing instead of talking.

AMEN, Ronny.  I mean, look at Spirit Of Speed, which has experienced
DISMAL sales (probably worse than GPL, in fact).  This PROVES that SoS
TRULY IS THE BEST RACING SIMULATION EVER, BAR NONE.

Uh, that's what your logic would lead us to believe anyway.  Bad sales
equals great sim with no mass appeal, right?  Could be that there's a
hole in that logic, perhaps -- maybe there are a few GREAT sims that
have enjoyed equally great sales numbers.  Which might explain why DTR
is doing so well in the sales department.

Build a good product with mass appeal and people will buy it.

Build a great product with mass appeal and lots of people will buy it.

Build a mediocre product with very narrow appeal and few people will buy
it once word gets out that it's a mediocre product.

Build a great product with very narrow appeal and few people will buy
it, period.

And to think that I'm not even an MBA . . . <G>

Hey Fish -

When Mobil 1 RC gets released in the US will it still require all the
